Who is More Popular – You or Your Blog?
Do you know Alok Vats or my blog I News India? You visited this blog to read the blog on I News India or a blog by Alok Vats? Check out this blog post of mine on who is more popular you or your blog?
It is normally asked about a book. People might ask you that if you are reading a book, or are you reading it just because of its author? Just because you are a fan of a writer, do you too buy the next book written by that particular writer?
Similar things happen with blogs as well. A blogger should have a popular blog or the blogger itself is so popular that people don’t even consider on which blog he/she is blogging?
What do you think about it? What is your opinion on it?
Well as far as my personal opinion is concerned, I think that a blogger must not have any value compared to what he blog and where he blogs. When you are into blogging, no matter on what topic are you writing, but you should have a more popular blog than you.
I guess this is a topic which I took because of two reasons. One reason being the line which I read on this news shared by one of my friends, mentor and inspiration Aji Issac: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata/Want-to-be-a-blogger-Experts-tell-you-how/articleshow/45916493.cms
In this news you can read about an opinion by Shilpa Srivastava who is the social media manager at Compare Infobase. She is saying the same thing, i.e. a blogger should come out of the ‘I’ factor. Your blog should be more popular than you.
As per her the vice-versa should not be true in this case. Means you should not be more popular than your blog.
Second reason why I picked up this topic is because of around 5 Very Inspiring Blogging awards which my blog I News India received during last few days. You will be surprised to read these influence bloggers line which they wrote about awarding this prestigious awards to my blog. Out of these 5 four bloggers actually gave the award to I News India, and not to Alok Vats, who is a blogger at I News India.
Here are those blogs:
Very Inspiring Blogger Award for Raag Desh!
Thank you Q W Naqvi sir for this prestigious award.
Very Inspiring Blogger Award for Poems and Stories for Children!
Thank you so much I B Arora sir for this prestigious award.
The Very Inspiring Blogger Award for Gadget Garrio!
Thank you so much dear Abhijit, you also mentioned me in some other blogs, especially in How I Managed To Be On Indiblogger Home Page
Thank you so much Tomichan Matheikal sir for this prestigious award.
The Very inspiring Blogger Award!
Thank you so much Preeti Chauhan mam for giving this honor to me.
So these were the two reasons why I decided to blog on this topic. It is a topic on which I would like to listen the opinions of my blogger friends, and readers. Please do share your opinion about what do you think about it. You can share your opinion in the form of comments below.
Nice one Alok.. I am completely with you on this. Our work and the purpose is bigger than us. If we do not grow out of the idea of I, there is no growth and no progress. And the purpose of the blog or the site was never I was it, it was maybe to add more value to a reader or maybe find ways to help someone who spends time with us, making them feel that it was the time well spent.. And as NR Murthy says – Systems outlive people 🙂
Absolutely correct buddy 🙂 It is the feeling that we bloggers are actually somehow helping others.
Hi Bro,
That was an interesting topic to discuss about. In my case, my blog is more popular than me. I built it and took it into people like a brand. Later, recently I have got to know that the blogger should also be popular as people follow bloggers than a brand. It also seems true to me as the followers will stay with us, no matter what blog we start or write in.
Thank you bro for start up an interesting discussion! Excited to see other blogger friends’ responses too 🙂
You are right Sasidhar bro that it is an interesting topic to discuss about, and this is the reason why I came up with it. I do agree with your points too. Thank you so much bro for sharing your point of view with us. 🙂
Full on Agree… yes the blog or for that matter any creation should be bigger than the creator or the artist/writer /blogger…. nobody is here to read about US but the experiences we had and the way we are using them in creating a piece ..of art/story/poetry/a pic etc.
And Vinay has quotes well – System outlive people … just like books outlive writers and ideas outlive thinkers …. Nice topic Alok 🙂
Thank you so much Kokila for sharing your opinion with us. 🙂
i am grateful to Naqvi saheb for finding some merit in my blog. for me, the real reward would be if some kids get to read and enjoy my poems and stories. as for you, you are as popular as your blog. keep educating us with your well-written posts
Thank you so much Arora sir 🙂 I am really honored to hear this… 🙂 Thank you so so much.
Thank you Arora ji for this honour.
I believe people buy people first, then their sayings. I read Alok Vats. I News India, for me, is a synonym of Alok Vats.
Hmm, thank you so much Ravish bhai for sharing what do you think about this post. Thanks buddy…
Quite an interesting topic. And yes, it is a fact that in the end it is content that matters and as Kokila Gupta puts it, any creation should be bigger than the creator or the artist/writer and a masterpiece always outlives it’s creator.
Similarly the content of any blog is more important than the blogger and a blogger’s real success is if he is recognised for the content he puts in on his blog, be it a write-up, picture, video or whatever. if it has any value for its audience, people will come and admire.
But this is also true that if a blogger is well known, his/her blog attract more people because of certain glam quotient. But if the blogger fails to deliver any value to it’s visitor, people will soon turn away and forget.
So I think, we should try to achieve a good balance between the identity and branding of the blog and the blogger. Keep adding value to both, the blog and the blogger, will be a good mix for success.
And last but not least, thank you Alok for mentioning me and my blog on INewsIndia.
You are absolutely right Naqvi sir, this being the reason why I saw many people complaining about the failure of expectations from many author once they publish their second book. Do very much agree with your point on doing a balance between the identity and branding of the blog and the blogger 🙂
Thank you so much sir, I was honoured that you mentioned me in your blog 🙂
Very rightly said Alok. A BLOG needs to be known for its content and not who is blogging about it. At the same time its a challenge to get unknown readers to your blog who will appreciate your writing style. Initially when i started blogging I posted it on FB for my friends to read. Only later realized I needed a bigger and unknown audience. I’m working towards it every day now:)
You are right Sonal, I do very much agree with your point of view. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion with us. 🙂
Interesting topic Alok ji, and now it has got me wondering on similar lines too.
So far as your question is concerned, it first started with ‘reading Alok Vats’ – in the sense that I was not reading ‘your blog’, but you because I could relate to you as an entity. It was only later that I News India came into it’s own and claimed it place in my blogroll. 🙂
So now I read the posts here and know that they have been put together by Alok ji. 🙂
Hmm, Ragini but there comes some more blogs in I News India, being written by some other bloggers as well?
Nicely written Alok! Pertinent Qn u hv raised.I think ppl kno us by our blog only. Yet I won’t take sides as my blog is intricately linked to me- it is even called ‘I’! Coz I really wanted it to reflect my opinions, feelings n so on! So I think v r both popular n intricately linked-mei aur meri blog like mein aur meri tanhai!:-P
Hmm 🙂 Nice thought Amrita, thanks for sharing your opinion with us 🙂
I think both are linked irrevocably. The same works for a book for me. If I like an author, I am very likely to pick their next book. It is because I enjoy the author’s work. The same works in blogging too. So, I will read what the blogger writes no matter where if I like that blogger’s work. However, if someone else took over the blog then I am not sure if the connect will continue.
Hmm, you are right Rachna as every writer or blogger does have a unique way of writing or blogging… It becomes a style. Thank you so much Rachna for sharing your opinion with us. 🙂
First of all, that’s an interesting subject.
I think it doesn’t matter as long as people get something out of reading the blog or reading you, especially because we’re talking about blogging in general.
If it is a niche blog, authority over the subject matters to a large extent so the person behind it becomes popular because of what he/she writes. If it is a personal blog, you might be reading it because a CERTAIN PERSON is doing the writing and you probably relate to what he/she writes or you like that particular blogger’s style or maybe you just want to know what that person’s take is( — on whatever). And so the blog turns out to be popular as well.
As far as your blog is concerned, what comes to mind first is your content, then Alok — the person who blogs here and then the name of the blog. That’s how it is for me. 🙂
Thank you so much dNambiar for sharing your opinion with us 🙂
Dear Alok,
I opine that brand speaks more than a person. I appreciate your way of choosing this topic. Thanks for sharing this article.
Thank you so much Suresh for sharing your opinion with us. I too sometimes feel the same.
Hey Alok, this post actually made me think about my reader’s psychology. I think if we can read our readers, we can bring more focused content and grab more targeted traffic. Thanks for sharing anyway. 🙂
That was the purpose why I shared this post Niladri. I too wanted to get an idea about my reader’s psychology. Thank you for sharing your opinion with us 🙂
Fortunately, I was present at the ceremony where sir Aji Issac delivered that speech. It was great learning experience. Your post is very though provoking.
Thank you so much Namrata, great to hear that you were present in that ceremony. You know what whatever I know in digital marketing field, the credit of the same goes to Aji only 🙂
Wonderful Alok 🙂
Heartiest congrats for so many Awards! Best wishes! Cheers 🙂
Thank you so much Anita 🙂
Congrats Alok 🙂
For me, the blog matters but also the person behind it. There is a signature style with some bloggers whose writing I appreciate much. E.g. even if you write on some other blogs ( guest posts) I’ll definitely visit that blog and read your post 😀
Thank you so much Maniparna, you are absolutely correct about signature style. 🙂
Hi Alok sir, You have valid reasons to say that blogs should be more popular. Thanks for sharing this post and congrats on receiving such recognition. 🙂
– Rohan Chaubey.

Hi Alok,
It’s like the “chicken-egg causation” analogy! 😀
for me Quality of the blog
Content of the blog
It’s clarity on understanding the subject discussed & or if its specialized blog than how it’s stands apart from rest of the crowd. But I also feel you as a blogger also adds some bits of your personality to it..
