How to Deal with Negative Comments on your Blog?
Negative comments on your blog are one of the most demotivating things for any blogger. Read on this blog post of mine to understand how to deal with negative comments on your blog?
Did you ever face a negative comment on your blog?
I did face it so many times. Spam comments and negative comments are two entirely different things.
Spam comments are those which try to publish a link to their spammy website or garbage site. They might write so many things on your blog and thus get the attention from you. They quite probably use positive words only, so that bloggers can approve their comments on their blog.
Although it is not the case with the negative comments, those who will post it on your blog will try to demoralize you with their language. They will try to think negative about your own ability of blogging.
You can easily identify the spam comments, if you do see the name and URL of a particular comment, but the main content of their comments will almost remain same. On the other hand in case of negative comments it will definitely vary and identified through main content only.
You might be surprised about why did I chose this topic for blogging today?
Those who are not much aware about me and my writing can actually check this post on how to do comments on blogs, so that they can understand how important comments on a blog have in my life.
I do always support sharing positive things, feedbacks, etc. if I ever plan to write something on some other blog. Neither I like sharing negative comments, nor I ever do appreciate others who do so.
Reason being a blog is the hard work of someone, and if by any chance we did not like something on it, it simply is not going us the right to humiliate that particular blogger and stop them from doing hard work in future.
Point out some flaws is fine, you can suggest whatever you felt bad about a particular blog, but then you don’t have the rights to humiliate the blogger.
I know the simplest way to deal with negative comments is to delete them and never allow them to display on your blog. But it is not the best ways to handle them.
So what is the best ways to handle the negative comments on any blog?
Though it is really difficult to tackle a negative comment as there are sentiments of the blogger associated with their blog, but still you can find out positivity from a negative comment. Just giving you an example, many of my blog readers commented on my blogs that my English knowledge is too poor, and I do have so many grammatical errors on my blogs. The way they write these comments can easily be considered as a harsh way to do so.
But, when I take them positively, I realize the fact that my English is really poor and I need to improve upon it. You can also read a blog which I wrote in the year 2008, 9, 10 or even in 2011 as well and you will understand the fact. If you compare them with the blogs which I am publishing these days you will surely understand the differences.
You can understand how much improvement I accomplished on my writing aspect. Who became the source of motivation for me? Obviously those negative comments only inspired me to upgrade my English knowledge and I even know this fact that still I need to travel a lot of distance to become one of the best.
Do understand the fact that a negative comment can also give you insight about something which you were not seeing earlier. Do understand the fact that most of the time we are unable to find out our own mistakes. If someone is pointing out that particular mistake, then you can even consider them as one of the best buddies of yourself.
If you see the negative comments or reviews in this way then you can handle them with a certain maturity level; discarding a negative comment or review is the simplest things to do, but the real bravery is to fight against them.
As I said that we can easily delete a negative comment from our database, but to respond them properly is the real ways to tackle them properly. Do have the patience and nail them with your response on their comments.
I am sure your confidence will force them to change their opinion about your blog or business. I am sure you all will support me if I say that hiding away from problems is not the best approach to handle problems, so let us face them and respond them.
No doubt your confidence is the key while handling the negative comments. If you lose your confidence after reading the negative comments then it is actually supporting the person who is posting negative comment on your site.
I suppose no one would ever want to do so. Hence, the best thing which you can do is to bring the confidence along your response and catch them in the moment. Let us feel them the heat of the reply.
Do you know the reason why I do love Sachin Tendulkar as a sportsperson? The reason of my love towards him is being his patience level. I do have the feeling that he never lost his calm against any allegations made by anyone in his entire career. This was the reason why when he left cricket, tears came from my eyes.
I normally had the same approach. I do believe that everyone has the rights to criticize someone. There is no one in this world that did not ever face any criticism in their life. But the winner is the one who kept their patience and responded through their work only.
Being a blogger, writing is our main strength. We can also respond to our critics with the help of our writings only.
So that is the all about how to handle the negative comments on your blog. Though as I said that I am open to all sort of suggestions, I must say you all too please share your honest opinion about my blog post. If you don’t like something on my blog, or some portions of my blog, you can easily suggest me the same. I would be happy to discuss about it, and I can even change it if I realize that I am doing some sort of mistake with it.
One more important thing which I missed discussing about blog comments is the fact that many a times people doubt on the trueness of the same. It is a general thinking that are these comments are real and coming from real people?
This is the reason why I appreciate the readers of my blog to share their feelings with us. If real people were commenting on your blog then no one will be able to mark it as a false comment. Honestly speaking if you will read the comments or recommendations properly you can easily understand if it is in fact being written by the person mentioned in that comment or not. Please do must share your opinion about it over here in the form of comments.
Nice one Alok.. It is indeed an inescapable truth that no matter what you write, there shall always be someone or the other to point fingers at it. Taking them positively like you mentioned is certainly the way to go. Added to that, there sure is a certain grace in the way we receive these comments and try and understand why the other person is writing this in the first place – it takes a bit for someone to come and make a negative comment on the blog. People usually are more than eager to leave a positive one… But on the other hand there will be times of a nasty comment on the blog which we need to learn to ignore 🙂
Absolutely correct buddy 🙂
Hi Alok bro,
The title is so pulling. Just like you said, deleting negative comments cannot help us and also will be discouraging. Responding positively helps a lot and also builds some kind of confidence. I have experienced it and learned a lot from negative commentators. In fact I turned some of them into my blog readers :p
Thank you for sharing such an encouraging article bro! Have a good day!
You are absolutely right Sasidhar bro 🙂 I am delighted that you liked the title of my blog post. Thanks for all your support and help.
Well, Alok, negative comments are not always to demoralize the author; sometimes, it is just the independent opinion of the commentator. Take this comment of mine as an example, it may appear as negative comment in some way because I don’t agree with you completely, but my intention is not to demoralize you, as you understand it very well. I’m expressing my honest view.
There are two types of negative comments. In one, people just disagree with author’s opinion and honestly convey it and enter into a healthy discussion with the intention to understand the author’s point of view. And, in second, people just want to prove the author wrong. They just shut their mind and give arguments.
At first glance, it’s difficult to distinguish them, but if, within 1-2 reply you feel irritation in comments from other side, identify the commentator as 2nd type who just want to prove his point and nothing else. Stop replying because he isn’t listening you.
Well Ravish, I don’t think so that it is a negative comment by any way. You are actually extending the points which I missed in my post, so I will take it as a very much positive comment only.
You are absolutely correct with the two types of negative comments posters. And you are also right about how can we identify the second types of comment posters.
Honestly negative comments are always a motivation for bloggers like me… Thanks buddy for sharing all these and spreading your love and care towards my blog. 🙂
Informative post !
Thank you so much Mahesh 🙂
what matters is your own conviction and sincerity,
You are absolutely right Arora sir 🙂 Thank you so much for all the love and support 🙂
Loved the article completely Alok. Negative comments plays a vital role in improving our blog and I suppose the bloggers can work towards improvement only when he is criticized. Thank you sharing such a valuable post.

Absolutely correct Kokila, difference of opinion is absolutely correct, but it should be written in a better way… Thanks Kokila for all your love and support 🙂
There should be different opinions on any issue and I find it interesting. I treat negative comments positively, as you’ve said, and try to establish my point through conversation. After all, interaction and connectivity are some aspects of blogging… 🙂 Great article…!
Absolutely right Maniparna 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing all these things with us.
Sometimes we need negative comments , I mean criticisms (constructive) to improve ourselves, our work because no one is perfect. Agree with you that having patience and having faith on ourselves is important to deal with negativity.
Yes Moon you are absolutely right that we sometimes need negative comments as well to improve ourselves 🙂 This is the reason why I wrote this blog, since I saw many people losing their heart for negative comments 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment over here.

Thank you so much Megha.
