Unprocessed foods come with the greatest rewards to human health. Food Processing happens when raw ingredients are not only chemically but also physically converted into food or its other forms. This means most of human food is therefore processed in one way or another. Physical conversions may not deprive the human body of the rich benefits of raw food in most cases.
Instances of physical conversion can be:
- Fruits may be plucked from trees when raw and ripened in a controlled environment.
- Butter is made by separating cream from milk using a churn.
- Ground beef is made by cutting it to very small pieces using meat grinder.
Benefits of unprocessed foods to the human body are as follows:
Fruit and vegetables contain antioxidants that help protect occurrence of heart disease in humans. They are also important sources of folate, which lowers blood levels of the amino acid, homocysteine, linked to increased risk of heart disease.
Aging mostly entails skin health. Antioxidants, Polyphenols and omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in skin protection and health. Another compound known as Lycopene which is mainly found in tomatoes protects against skin-damaging ultraviolet rays. At the same time, eating fresh fish, fruits and vegetables protects inner organs keeping them functioning properly as a person ages.
These are vital for the breaking down of nutrients essential for human body.
Processing food destroys most of these enzymes either by heating or other forms of preservation.
Natural foods have compounds that create a positive effect on human emotions. Good examples are fruits such as currants, blackberries and grapes that contain naturally occurring polyphenols which uplifts one’s mood. You may check mrswages.com for the process of canning fruits. In addition, black and green teas are also good sources of compounds that play the same role.
Consuming freshly picked food rewards the body with the healing power of nature. Eating much of processed foods simply leaves you feeling disconnected from the goodness of nature.
Mediterranean and Plant-based foodstuffs are both rich in micro-nutrients which occur naturally. These micro-nutrients have been proven to positively affect life expectancy. Even diseases that could shorten human life cannot affect the role of nutrient rich food from enhancing human healthier and longer living.
Healthy human diet plays a central role in prevention and fight against cancer. About thirty to forty percent of all forms of cancers are preventable if only human diet would be carefully observed. This is especially true in the case of breast cancer. Consuming cruciferous vegetables like cabbages, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower have in many cases been linked directly to lower risks of breast cancer. One study suggests that women who ate Chinese cabbage and turnips faced a lower risk of getting cancer. Vitamins like C, D and B-12 are believed to protect and help fight against cancer, just as chlorophyll and carotenoids. All of these dietary benefits can be easily accessed by consuming fruits and vegetables.

This is pretty cool Alok. The one thing I knew about these processed food is that it uses a lot of preservatives which are extremely fattening. But I had no idea about the rest of the information. This is really very helpful 🙂
Thank you so much Vinay, I am glad that guest blogs of I News India are also useful to it’s reader-base 🙂
I love the point “Connection with nature.” It is interesting how certain processed food can change the emotional health, must mention that it is mostly because of the meaning we associate to it. I am talking about chocolates and ice creams that make you feel relaxed when you are stressed or depressed. Good to find a replacement with blackberries and grapes 🙂
Thank you so much Vidyashree 🙂 I am glad that you liked it.
Great post sir. The post curtails almost everything that can inspire anyone to consume unprocessed food.
However, the problem is how to get such kind of food? While living in cities we are forced to eat processed fruits and the like. 🙁
Could you please suggest or may be Flora can write another post as a follow up for this problem.
