Importance of Unique Page Titles in SEO!
Last week we discussed about different types of search engine optimization works in our SEO tutorials series, this week we will discuss about the page titles of different pages of your site. Read on this tutorial to understand the importance of unique page titles in SEO.
As we discussed about the different types of SEO works in our last tutorial on SEO, we discussed about the On Page works and Off Page SEO works as well, and as I mentioned that On Page works are something on which Google is more focused these days. So to continue the same discussion we will discuss about the very first and the most important stuff of the websites.
Page titles are the first thing which can tell about the purpose of your web page. This is the most important element of website development, though many a times neglected by website developers. Precisely page title of a web page is something which Google and any other search engines mostly display on their search result pages as well.
So it is something which has the caliber of bringing so many visitors to your website. Consider a scenario in which your site reached to the top of the organic results for a very competitive keyword, but then do you have the strength to accept the fact that no one is visiting your website, just because the title tag is improper or incorrect?
I don’t think that any web business has that much courage.
So how can we make our page title a better one?
Here are some things which you can do to make your title a perfect one, which can compel the users to click on your results:
The general mistake which almost everyone makes is of using the same title on all the pages of their website. It normally happens during the development process, when the developer use to copy and paste the company name as the title of all the pages. Thus when all the pages are uploaded to the main server, the title remains the same.
Let me tell you having the same title are also harmful for the SEO of your website.
Do prepare a unique title for each of the pages of your website, so that they can actually reflect the purpose of that page.
Let me show you how a title is going to display on search engines. When you search for some keywords, it is the first thing which will be highlighted by the search engine and displayed to the user.
Check this image in which I am showing the title of I News India and other sites on Google search for keywords 10 benefits of reading.
So understand the importance of title tag which can compel the user to click on your link or not on search engine result pages. You can use title tag as <title>You Title Over Here</title> in the head section of your website.
If you are using the company name, or the business name, or the domain name for the homepage of your site then it can be understood, but using the same on all the pages is not good. In case of blog it can work as it will come dynamically, though you can remove the display of it too. But when you are working on a business website, you should remember that the business name should be used for branding purposes only, not for displaying on all the pages.
The title of a web page should reflect the purpose of the same. Always avoid making a title which has no relevance with the content of the page, this is suicidal in case of SEO of your site.
Make sure that there should not be a default value for the title tags of your website.
The biggest challenge with title tag is that Google or any other search engines don’t allow many characters in this tag. Normally Google allows only 65 characters (with spaces) for display on SERP. So try to make it crisp, but meaningful.
Putting your main keywords in title tag is absolutely fine, but putting unnecessary keywords is a bad habit. Don’t ever try to give as many keywords as possible in title tags. Limit the keywords to maximum 2 or 3.
Try to make them in this manner that they can be used for different keywords.
So that is the all for today’s SEO tutorial. We will again come up with something special on next week. Most probably we will discuss about Meta Description in next week. So far we discussed about these topics in our SEO tutorial series (other than the different types of SEO blog):
