It’s a goody Alok….Lots of info… I’d prefer the combination of own domain & blogspot platform unless I go with self hosting. WP is good for self hosting. As a matter of fact, in Indian currency, it comes around Rs 1900 per year considering $18 for domain & $13 for hosting. Moreover, it also depends on dollar exchange rate. At the same price one can avail self hosting on WordPress instead of WordPress hosting. The advantage of self hosting is always praised by you. I guess WordPress hosting is more safe from hacking point of view. I couldn’t find any better person than you to say on this.

Hey Ravish, don’t be confused buddy, $18 is for domain name if you purchase from WordPress.com and all done. On the other hand $13 is for the domain name which you purchases from some other site let’s say GoDaddy, and want your WP blog on this domain name.
In any case you are not required to pay for hosting, WordPress.com will provide that for free. And yes an additional $8 or 9 will be required if you want to make the domain information private.
Well as far as safety of wp blog is concerned I guess it depends on the owner of the blog. I will plan to post a blog on this tomorrow..
Thank you so much Ravish for believing so much on me…

OK Alok, it comes to $18 per year which in Indian currency is around Rs1050 with the limitations on custom themes, custom plugins & restricted advertisements. On the other hand you don’t have any such limitations on blogspot. Blogspot also don’t charge for own custom domain hosting. And if we buy domain with .com extension in open market, it comes around Rs.750 per year. That’s why, I prefer custom domain on blogspot & self hosting on wp. ๐

Oh yes Ravish, in that way I will also support you that having customized domain name with Blogspot in back end is far better than having customized domain and WordPress in back end. ๐

I was actually having a wordpress.com customized domain till yesterday and just shifted to wordpress.org. With my personal experience I would only say that the investment is not at all worthy in wordpress.com and there are many limitations.

Exactly my point Gaurab, that is what I am saying. If anyone would not want to invest on self hosting, then having custom domain name and blogspot as back-end is still far better than having wordpress.com as back-end. ๐ Thank you so much Gaurab for sharing your own experience.

Thanks for the valuable info but still I have no confidence to transfer my blog to WP..

Thank you so much Treat and Trick, I do agree that many people don’t have this confidence to upgrade their site, despite knowing all the benefits of the up-gradation. I hope one day you will realize the importance of having your own domain name or a self hosted blog of your own. ๐

Hi Alok! I am here on your page through your link you shared with me on Indiblogger. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Such a nice post you have posted here. But the thing is that I am still confused, I am new to blogging world. You suggested me to purchase domain name from Godaddy and purchase the hosting from somewhere else. Will you please elaborate “Somewhere else” ? Please explain me the whole process.
Thanks-
Dear Nickk, thanks for taking time to read my blog. I am extremely happy that you liked it. Honestly when I said hosting from “somewhere else” then it somewhere else can be any place like Hostgator, Godaddy, Bluehost, or iPage as well. These will cost you somewhere around 3600 Rs to 10000 Rs. per year basis.
These are some of the world’s best web hosting provider for the hosting of a WordPress site. If you think that these are costly, then you can also directly contact me for getting the hosting through me. I will not only provide you the hosting but also the full support in shaping your blog too. ๐
