A very useful information indeed, Alok. A domain name is very important from brand establishment as well as SEO point of view. I think it’s better to register a domain name which include the targeted niche-name in it.

Nice one Alok. Before this site of mine, I had a wordpress blog called muktamanassu.wordpress.com and I had such a hard time telling people what it was, esp the westerners. Since the meaning makes sense only in the local language, very few people understood what it meant and that is something which led to inspire99 as self hosted site. The points here are straight on the dot! 🙂

Thank you so much Vinay, you are absolutely right about it. Having a self hosted blog is the best approach if you are doing it seriously, but then if you consider about returns from a particular domain, then I would suggest it is a wrong approach. Planning to write a blog on this only, most probably will write today only about how you can have different blogs. 🙂

Datta, to be very frank, a domain name costs somewhere around Rs. 200 to Rs. 800 an year, while hosting ranges from around 1500 Rs. to 10K Rs.+ as well. It all depends on your requirements, quality and many other factors. Do let me know when you decide to shift I can be able to help you in deciding things.

I have already bought bindumadhavi.asia and was searching for other domain names. But .com is not available for maximum words, even if it is there, price is very high.
Also I found in godaddy and bigrock the price it shows is for first year, like 199/- etc.. then onwards the price will be 999/- per annum…
I really wonder whether I will really be able to make that much.Now that I have bindumadhavi.wordpress.com can I shift this blog to bindumadhavi.asia ? and still get hosting by wordpress?
Have written any article on buying and selling domains? Have you tried that? whats your view on that?

Hi Bindu, getting desired domain names is an art, it is really difficult to get the same, but then you can try some different variations of the desired name and I am sure you can get it.
As far as price differences are concerned, it is true that for promotional purposes sites offer less price for the first year, but then onward you will have to pay the exact price. It is better to go with renowned names as they won’t ask for a huge money for renewing the site.
As far as making that much is concerned, you have such a talent Bindu that you can even make more than that 🙂 You just need my guidance for the same. 🙂

I don’t think so that I have written any article or blog on buying and selling domain, as I am not much into it. Never sold any domain so far. I once tried selling inewsindia.com only, but then realized it is like my first baby and I wont ever been able to sell it.
