Responding to Blog Comments is Good or Bad?
What do you say; responding to blog comments on your site is good or bad? You can meet many bloggers who are doing so, but is it worth? Read more to know responding to blog comments is Good or bad?
Those who are regular visitors of my blog I News India must be aware of the thing that I usually respond to each and every comment on my blog. Timing can be a bit delayed, but response will surely be given to each and every comment on my site.
Do you think am I doing well?
Is it worth giving so much time on replying to comments on our blog?
Usually I don’t only respond to comments on my blog, but to the replies I mostly receive on my comments on other blogs as well. Commenting on other blog is not something which I am going to discuss over here, but certainly commenting on our blog is a serious matter of concern.
To be very frank, you must be aware of this mobile app of WordPress for Android, I was unable to install on my tablet, and I switched to ASUS Zenfone 4, just to use this app, so that I can even access the comments on my blog through my cell phone.
In my opinion it is one of the coolest apps and every blogger should use it. You can create blog posts easily through this app, you can easily write, edit and publish your blog posts through this app and you can also access the comments on your blog through this app easily.
Coming back to our original discussion, normally it won’t take much time of ours to respond to a comment. Sometimes it can take a bit extra time, if the reader might have asked something difficult question, but normally responding a comment hardly takes more than two minutes.
Though still there are few bloggers who don’t even want to give that much amount of time for their readers. A per visits your blog, reads it, and then gives a comment on your blog, and you don’t even think about the time which he or she invested in giving a comment to your blog?
Do you think your one or two minute is more valuable than the ten minutes which your reader has invested on your blog?
So I guess those were some of the bloggers who think responding to the comments on their blog is a waste of time and it is a bad thing to do, and hence prefer not to do so.
Now coming back to the bloggers of my type. My types of bloggers are those who prefer responding to each and every comments on their blog. Why do we consider it as good? Why do we feel that responding to each and every comment on our blog is going to benefit our website?
Let me give you a few reasons why I do consider responding comments as good:
This is a process which helps us to strengthen our bond with our readers. When we do respond to their comments they feel good about us and our blog.
Thus soon they become regular visitors of our blog and which blogger is there who don’t want to get loyal followers?
We all want loyal followers, and if giving a minute can strengthen the bond between blogger and its reader then I think it is worthwhile.
It is quite an obvious benefit which we bloggers can get through it. When you have so many comments on a blog post, it will surely increase the text on your post. This way it will increase the SEO ranking of your page. Thus through search engines you will start getting more and more visitors.
Who else don’t want search engine traffic?
I doubt there will be anyone.
Those who comment on some blog and get responses from there must visit your blog to see the same post again and again. Thus blog owners who respond to comments are sure to get increased number of repeated visitors.
As you are aware now that responding back to the blog comments will increase the traffic on your blog. This is one of the sure ways to increase the revenue of your blog. With increased traffic you are sure to get increase revenue.
In addition, since this visitor base will be loyal towards you, it will have higher chance that this follow base will follow whatever you recommend to them and thus you can earn through affiliate marketing as well.
So those were some of the benefits which you can get through responding to your comments. I very much understand that it consumes a bit of time, but then after considering all this benefits, I am sure it is more beneficial only.
Other than all those benefits you can also get social mentions from your comments response. You can also have the ability to link to any page of your blog from those comments, thus you can have an additional flow of traffic to your blog through those links.
In my opinion responding to comments is worthwhile, what do you think about it? Please do share your opinion about this blog post. I would be glad to see your comments on this post as it will reveal the pros and cons of responding to blog comments.
Alok, allow me to differ a bit from you. There could not be any hard and fast rule. For me, some comments deserve a reply and some don’t. Putting comment is like a business thing. It is meant for exchange. People comment on your blog to get comment on their blog instead of getting replies on the same post. I don’t think most of them subscribe comments or come back to the same post again & again unless they find some sort of interest in it. Sometimes it feels like standing on the gate & welcoming everyone: “Thank you for coming.” They also come for social formality not because of intimacy or concern: “Nice post.” Replying on genuine comment is enthusiastic but……
I only find this custom among Indian Bloggers only.
Very much agree with your point of view Ravish. I do understand that we all can have this feeling, but then as we welcome any guest to our home, no matter if we like them or not, similarly we do welcome any one who comments on our site.
You are right with your point of view, and thanks that you discussed the same with us.
Alok Bhai sahab, This is an article on an important matter. In my view we must always respond those who post a comment on our post. I have seen that some of the bloggers delete adverse comments but in my view we must never feel disappointed even if a reader posts an adverse comment. I have received some adverse comments on my posts but I never deleted a comment and accepted them all. Adverse comments are also useful because they point out our mistakes. Comments must be used not only to appreciate but to criticize also.
My opinion differ with Mr. Ravish. Responding a comment is not a matter of rule. Really it is not a matter of rule but it is a matter of manners. It is just like saying thanks to the commentator. I completely agree with Mr. Ravish’s opinion “I don’t think most of them subscribe comments or come back to the same post again & again”.
Thank you so much Sampat Kumari jee for sharing your opinion with us. I guess it is true that we should not delete any adverse comments as well, that is quite fine and even I don’t do so.
You are right about thanking to the commentator. 🙂 Thanks for coming and responding.
Sorry Mrs. Sampat Kumari Bahan Jee, I couldn’t understand the difference part between us. As a matter of fact, we, both, agree that responding a comment is not about rule. And, as it appears, my comment is not advocating to respond comments without bothering about manners or is it? Please care to explain….
Dear Ravish, I don’t think there are any differences between any of our views. We all think in almost similar ways 🙂
I don’t know if Sampat Kumari Jee is going to respond to your comment or not, but yes as far as my opinion is concerned, if I do comment on some blog, my purpose was not that the blog owner should visit my site and comment on my posts, rather if I don’t get a response on their site, it makes me a bit sad.
Nice one Alok :). The idea to look at blog as a relationship building one is a really nice one, I think that has been the guiding principle for me to start writing. And I completely agree on the points mentioned here, although SEO is not something that would come naturally to me, but very valid points 🙂
Thank you so much Vinay, SEO is not something which can create issues for you 🙂 Especially when I am there for your help.
Well said, This is one thing I do. Look at it this way you respond to when someone says to you on a face to face visit then why not here in the virtual world? 🙂
Nicely said Datta Ghosh. Very much believe in your point. Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion with us.
Nice post Alok, responding to comments is surely not a rule. I see it this way that of someone has read my post and taken time to write a few words I have a SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY to respond. Regarding some quick comments that people leave saying beautiful or nice post, I tell myself some people are men of few words. And me commenting, again I feel if I read something I surely have something to say.
Cool, Thank you so much Shweta. I am happy that you liked this blog post of mine 🙂
Alok…I feel replying to the comments is worthwhile… Your idea of building a relationship with readers is good- at least due to that ur readers know u exist… Also it’s good to see dat although u have numerous comments under ur post u make it a point to reply to everyone…:)
Thank you so much Shahen Pardiwala for your comment 🙂 I am glad that you liked this blog post of mine. Thank you so much for appreciating 🙂
Nice article Alok! Agree with benefits of commenting and replying to comments on our blog. Vice versa process also important- that is, whoever comments on our blog, we should visit them too and comment! That would strengthen bonds! 🙂
You are absolutely right Amrita, it should be an ideal condition. Thank you so much for your comments over here 🙂
I agree with everything you wrote. But I do wonder on the practicality of it. I am rather new to the world of blogging, and there are not too many comments on my blog.
I would usually respond all of them once a week, which is easily manageable.
Datta Ghosh’s has commented that you do reply when one says something to you face to face. Again, very right. Replying to comments seem to be basic manners, if seen from her point of view.
I just wonder, what happens when the choice is between either writing something new, or responding to comments.
I guess I will cross that bridge if and when I reach it 🙂
I can understand your point of view Nimi, and I very much accept whatever you said is right as well. But neither me nor you have so far reached to the stage when you published a blog and you are getting thousands of comments on it. Once we reach to that position we can then think about what is the priority for us, but as far as this blog is concerned, I have written from considering the bloggers who are not getting more than one hundred comments maximum.
I have seen some fairly good bloggers who use to get hundreds of comment but then still prefer to respond to them, while there are bloggers who merely get 10 comments on their blog and still think why to respond to them?
Anyways I am really glad that you liked the post and discussion and participated in it as well. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your opinion with us.
I mostly make sure that I respond to the comments I receive on any of my blog post. Till this date I just felt happy about interacting with my readers but your post made me realize the other benefits of it. 🙂
Thank you so much Judy, yes I do know that you respond to each and every comment which you receive on your blog. I am glad that you liked this blog post of mine. Thank you so so much Judy 🙂
Apt points, Alok!
I am still learning many things about Blogging.
Comments are very personal &b people invest time & effort. Nice when something nice comes of it.
Recently, I learnt that some people dislike comments! 🙂
We have to be careful where & what we comment!
Thank you so much Anita for sharing your opinion with us, you said it absolutely right that nice when something nice comes of it 🙂
True alok,
1. Neil Patel of Quicksprot.com recently revealed that commenting and responding to the comments is secret of his success. Till now he had made more than 50,000 comments.
2. I too believe that , comments are treated as keywords by Google. So, more keywords means more traffic.
Thank you so much Chakravarthy, I am so glad to hear the 2 points which you mentioned over here. Thank you so much for your visit and sharing your opinion with us.
I agree with you fully Alok. Responding to comments is just a simple gesture…it’s same as welcoming guests at our house….and what’s wrong in it ? if someone leaves a comment on Facebook, don’t we respond ? it’s same here..someone is coming to my blog and spending time to read my posts…so a simple ‘thank you’ is the least thing he/she deserves…I like to interact with my readers and some of them have become good friends too… 🙂
Thank you so much Maniparna, I am really glad that you supported my opinion 🙂 I am glad that we two thinks identical.
Respected Ravish Mani bhai sahab, in by opinion every comment deserves a response. I want to clarify that I am from literature back ground and you are from technical back ground. It is a fact that my knowledge about computer and software can not be equivalent to yours. It is my principal that if some one comments on my post, I definitely visit his blog and post one or more comment on his blog. Once I visited a blog of a US blogger and found nothing special there but his each post had a large number of comments. Some posts had 300+ comments and all were standard comments. I was surprised to see and contacted the blogger and requested him to guide me how to get more comments. I was surprised to see the reply. He was a member of a group of 300+ bloggers and they comment on the post of each other irrespective of the contents.
However I am not happy with the apathetic tendency of senior and expert bloggers, though Alok Bhai Sab is an exception in matter
Surprised to hear this Sampat Kumari jee. Though I guess Ravish is the best person to respond to it.
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion and am really glad that you consider me as an exception, though honestly you consider me an exception just because I am not an expert one 🙂
