10 Common Misconceptions about Blogging!
There are many types of misconception about blogging industry. Being a blogger I came through some of them and thought I should present our opinion about them. Here are the 10 common misconceptions about blogging and my opinion on them.
What do you think is the most common types of myth about us? I guess it is something; we don’t do any work other than writing. Honestly those who do blog they know that blogging is not all about writing only. Writing is actually a part of blogging, but blogging does play a huge role.
Here are the most common types of ten misconceptions which I found about blogging:
My dear friend as I said above blogging is not at all about writing only. It is even more than writing blogs. A blogger need to take care of so many things which includes, researching topics for their blog, reading other blogs, writing blogs, proofreading the same, publishing the same, sharing it on social media network, analyzing responses about it, monitoring comments and like dislikes on it, responding to comments, spreading networks, etc.
If you think all these works are simple enough then I would request you to start a blog today only. If you did so then please don’t hesitate to share the name and URL of blog as a comment over here and I would further stay connected with you and ask you about the experience after a few days.
And yes, other than managing blogs a blogger also need to manage the search engine optimization or SEO of the blog as well. Not many bloggers are there who can hire an SEO like us to manage their blog. Mostly individual blog owners need to manage it by themselves only, and if by any chance Google sends them a love letter then you can easily understand the work which it can increase.
One of the most common misconceptions about blogging is that it is free. You need not to spend a single penny to do blogging. Honestly speaking it is true too, but up to an extent only. Those who do use the free blog service providers like blogspot (Blogger), wordpress.com (WordPress), tumblr, etc. they might need not to pay anything for this.
But as soon as your blog start growing, you need to spend on your site. The best spend which a blogger do on their blog is to purchase the domain name and the web hosting for it. Depending on the traffic which a blog is getting web hosting also upgrades in future.
So saying that blogging is free is not at all true. After all other than money you are also investing your time, efforts and energy on it, and hence in no way you can call it as free.
Another common blogging misconception is that you are doing blogging; it means you are earning huge money.
It is such a blame that I really want to laugh on it. Earning from a blog entirely depends on many factors, it includes the things like traffic, ads, affiliate networks, presentation on blog, their placement, and many other factors. Honestly speaking no one can be able to predict the exact earning of a blog, but then thinking that blogging means huge earning is not at all true.
If you ask any newbie blogger you will realize how difficult it is to earn a single penny from your blog. Ask an experienced blogger like me too, and I will also say the same.
Though I myself is a part timer blogger, but then I never support this opinion that people should blog on a part time basis only. I myself is aware of many bloggers, even from India, who usually being able to survive their lifestyle with the help of running their blog only.
Blogging itself is the base of many businesses, you can easily run a blog and earn through different channels, but then first you should know about them and second you should focus all your time on your blog.
So blogging as a full time job is also a good and reliable option, unless and until you do it seriously.
Honestly a bit of technical knowledge is required to manage a blog, but it simply does not mean that you need to be an expert in technical things to manage a blog. After all the day when I first started this blog I News India, I was a newbie that time, and I successfully managed running its hosting, domain, and all other technical things required to manage a blog.
With time anyone can learn things after doing it. The best thing about blogging industry is that you can almost get all the information required to run a blog through the world of web only.
I am an SEO, and hence I can better clarify the doubts about this. To be very frank you need not to be a SEO expert to run a successful blog. Though you must need to understand some of the basics like title, keywords, URL, and a few things which I mentioned on Some Basic SEO Tips which you Might be Missing, or on 5 Basic SEO Tips You Should Know and on Some Basic SEO Tips which you Might Not Ignore for Long Run can be handy for you to successfully manage a blog.
To be very frank SEO these days has become one of the costly affairs, you cannot hire a SEO for limited budget. Then you also need not to be an expert SEO to manage a blog successfully. You can easily manage a blog with knowing much technical details and SEO.
Now this is a misconception which you can even found in some experienced bloggers as well. To be very frank, lengthy and informative contents are very much required to give the SEO boost for your blog, but then it simply does not means that you cannot write an impressive blog with fewer words.
You certainly can. You can use infographics, images, videos to complement the number of words, and you can still make an impressive blog.
If you are creative then you can simply write a few words only and can still present the blog in a way that users can get the maximum information.
I hardly believe on it, though I would love to hear the opinion of other bloggers on this. It would be good if some blogger friends of mine share their opinion about this. As far as my opinion about it is concerned, it certainly plays an important role in measuring the success of your blog, but then getting loyal subscriber is not that easy.
It is like on a Facebook page you might see millions of followers, but how many of them likes and comment on a post of that page is something which matters. Similarly how many subscribers of followers a blog has does not matter a lot, then how many are actually the loyal followers of your blog. How many of them regularly read your blog, is something which matters a lot.
It certainly is a misconception that more traffic on a blog brings more business and money to it. To be very frank there are some blogs which has huge traffic, but they lack as far as earning is concerned.
Actually earning from a blog depends on the smart way how you tackle them. Some blogs with very less visitors are earning really decent amount through their blog.
The last but not the least misconceptions about blogging is that it should be updated daily to get the maximum benefits. Honestly I too update my blog I News India on a daily basis, but it has nothing to deal with this point. I do blog on a daily basis is because I have a passion towards it.
Although if you say that you need to upload a post daily to manage a blog then you are wrong. You can even share a post on a weekly basis, monthly basis, or fortnight basis as well. The schedule and number of posts entirely depends on the individual user’s choice.
I am sure there must be some misconceptions about which I might not be aware of too. If you know any such please do let me know in the form of comments. Along with this you can also share your opinion about this blog post of mine.
Please do share your comments about this blog post of mine. What do you think about my opinion about these common misconceptions about blogging and what is your opinion about them?
I will wait for your comments on it.
Lovely Post Alok, Very insightful and interesting one. Liked it…..:)
Thank you so much Priyashi 🙂 I am glad that you liked it…
This is a splendid one Alok :).. I did have a lot of these misconceptions when I started but now having spent a little time on blogging, I can see each one of these misconceptions being taken off one by one :).. It is a great learning experience though and you have captured them all together very well here 🙂
Very true Vinay. Now you are an experienced blogger and you can easily understand the reality behind all these misconceptions 🙂 Thanks buddy for liking the post.
I think, mostly, there are two types of bloggers: one who writes just to express oneself and earns a global presence. And second who writes for promoting business. Alok, this article is a well balance of both. Another gem of Blog-O-Pedia. (Y)
Thank you so much Ravish 🙂 I am glad that you liked it 🙂
Every time I read your posts I realize how much I din’t know and I am happy that I know so much more ! Every time I hear people say you must have content, it must be lengthy ,and blah blah I too want to laugh because clearly blogging is anything but not just writing ! Sometimes I get angry when few of my friends commented ‘ you simply write and ask others to read right?” , surely they lack sense of humor 😐 next time I meet someone who thinks blogging is easy and express misconception about blogging I am going to highly recommend him/her to read this fab blog post of yours !
And coming to ‘ More the no of followers , more success of the blog’ I have seen many bloggers with a high rate of followers on Fb and G+ get millions of opportunities so yes there is no denying that no matter if the followers are fake or not loyal followers , the brands and companies opt for those with highest no of followers !
thank you sharing such knowledgeable information ! I found it very very helpful !
Thank you so much Najm Nisa, I am really delighted that you appreciate my efforts so much. It really means a lot to me.
Thank you so so much once again Nisa 🙂
I entered blogging by accident in 2008 and then one blog and that’s it. I stopped. Last year end my writer’s block started to lift off and this year is the first time I am concentrating on my blogs. Agreed to all your points. Blogging is just not writing. Its all about what you said. I need SEO tutions or I have to re read all your articles again and again to get it right.
Hey Datta, if you need SEO tuition as well I am here to provide you the same. Reading the blogs will also work for you, but then I won’t get the fees 🙂
Thanks a lot for such a nice feedback 🙂
Ahh! That is so true!
I wont be wrong if I say that I have come across blogs that have like 100’s of followers & 1000’s of blogs… but when you read the posts, you are like “Get that grammar right, sweety!”.. at least in the Blog Post!!!
Also, I would like to add another misconception about Blogging.. which I have faced so many times.. & that is.. “You Blog? That means you are free & have a lot of time to do ‘all this’. Blog-shog is for people who aren’t busy!”
Grrr…It annoys the hell out of me!!!
-Gauri
Thank you so much Gauri for sharing your opinion with us. I am sure you must have found some grammatical error on this blog post of mine too 🙂 Unfortunately I am not that much educated and especially my hand in English language is a bit short. I hope you will ignore some of those mistakes.
Yup you said it right, blogging simply does not means we are free. Especially if you ask me I am unable to perform so many things just because I don’t have much time…
I am glad that you visited my blog and shared your opinion with us. Thank you so much Gauri 🙂 I will try to improve further…
Your Blog is perfect! I loved it! & nah, I didn’t find any grammatical errors 😉
Good effort! You have some really great articles up there!
I am a newbie to blogging myself, so there’s a lot to learn from yours! 😀
I would be glad if you visit my Blog “ReflecSo” too, & provide your feedback!
Thanks & regards,
Gauri 😀

Hey Gauri, you really made my day dear. Am glad that my blogs are improving. 🙂
Did checked your blog posts and I must say that you are not at all a newbie. You are presenting content in a very good way, though the biggest mistake which I feel any serious blogger do is to go ahead with the blogspot domain name. So I would suggest you to have a domain name please.
I would suggest you to please read these blogs of mine, I am hopeful you will like them:

I had every single one of these misconceptions when I started blogging. Now I know better 🙂
Thank you so much Anawnimiss 🙂 I am glad that you liked this blog post of mine. You are right, you are an experienced blogger now and can really understand these myths and their reality 🙂
Great to read this, Alok.
I saw many Blogs that have hundreds of followers, but not a single comment in the latest post. I couldn’t understand what’s happening!
I understand that earning followers is very tough- in Blogging & in Social Media too.
We have to put in a lot of effort & spend time. Blogging is definitely not free!
You are right Anita. Blogging is something more than getting followers, it is like building friends everyday… And yes you said it right that it is definitely not free, people should understand this. Thank you Anita for sharing your opinion and supporting my post 🙂
Hi , I am a newbie blogger and I totally agree with you . Very nicely written post … 🙂
Thank you so much Shruti 🙂 I am glad that you liked my blog post. It’s a pleasure that you visited my site and shared your opinion about it. Thanks once again 🙂
This is a very good and concise manner in which u have written these misconceptions…. Another misconception is that u gotta b Shakespeare and really good in our English and grammar….well, although I focus on the English I feel it isn’t that important. Although I found a mistake here n there in the post, ur crispness and skill stole the show….kudos do check out
shahensworld.blogspot.in
Thank you so much Shahen 🙂 I am really glad that you liked the blog post so much. Well you are right that we need not be Shakespeare to write blogs. Normal English language being understood by our readers is more than enough 🙂
Though I really did not understand this line: “Although I found a mistake here n there in the post, ur crispness and skill stole the show” What mistake have you found in the post?
Can you please elaborate the same so that I can improvise?
Thank you so much for your visit and comment over here.
Hi Alok,
Although, I am a newbie to blogging but I can easily connect to the points that you have mentioned.. lovely post
Regards,
Vartika
Thank you so much Vartika, it’s a pleasure of mine that you visited my blog and shared your opinion about it. I am glad that you liked it. 🙂
A good post, as always.
I recently read somewhere that “a blogger always wants to see himself/herself in the media”.
Another misconception I believe.
Thank you so much Sharmila for sharing your opinion with us. I am glad that you liked this blog post of mine. You are absolutely right, honestly there are many bloggers who don’t even want to ever come to media. Though I think it is really pleasant if media recognizes your work.
Thank you so much for sharing your support to our blog 🙂
I meant “A blogger need to take care …”
Since blogger is singular and verb should b plural that is needs… However does it matter when u blog on a topic that have so many misconceptions…???? 🙂
Ideally speaking you are also right up to an extent, but then it hardly matters as I am using the term “A Blogger” in singular manner only.
Buddy honestly I don’t have much knowledge of English language, otherwise I would have definitely taken care of such small things, but when I start writing, I don’t look for such small-small things, whatever comes in the flow I just go ahead with the same.
Thanks for pointing it out to us 🙂 I will try to improve upon it in future…
An excellent article revealing every thing about blogging. I have 100 posts on my blog and my son has 95 posts on his blog but his number of visitors is 4 times of my visitors. Regarding technical expertise, I learned most of the things from other bloggers. Almost all the points in this article are quite realistic.
Thank you so much Sampat Kumari Je. I am glad that you liked the blogs of mine. 🙂
Quite and insightful and balanced post… Can very much relate to your pointers! Good one 🙂
Thank you so much Shesha, I am really glad that you liked this blog post of mine 🙂
