Google Emphasizing on Secure Websites!
During last few years Google has almost increased the number of signals responsible for counting the SEO score of a website to almost more than hundreds. One recent addition to them is the secure websites. Read on this blog post of mine to understand how Google emphasizing on secure websites.
Unfortunately I was going through some Pooja and party at my home on 7th of August and this was the reason why I missed the tweet of Matt Cutts on this new happening. Although when I returned back to my normal schedule, I realized that there is something which happened in between.
Do you know what was it?
Google announced the increase of yet another ranking signal. And it was the secure websites; I mean the sites which has https instead of http and SSL certifications.
I do understand why Google is so keen about this recent update. It is because Google wants a safe and secure internet. Undoubtedly security is the top priority for world’s most popular search engines. They never want to display any search results which might harm their users.
It is a general perception that encrypted websites are quite secure than any other websites. No doubt about this.
And hence Google has decided to give a positive boost to websites which are using https.
Honestly it is a very weak signal. Normally it can be a good point for ecommerce websites, but then what about a blog. A site which only shares information is normally not suppose to be encrypted one. So what will be the impact of HTTPS as ranking signal to them?
On the other hand you might say that when we talk about ecommerce websites, they do have the SSL certification for the checkout pages, all other remaining pages are not secure. There are blogs installed on ecommerce websites, product pages, informative pages, which are not having https structure.
Honestly, I can say that it’s not at all possible to convert all the websites of this world to encrypted ones. It is true that Google wants to see more encrypted websites, but then practically it is not possible to convert each and every website into encrypted one.
What will be its impact then?
As Google right now claiming that it would be around 1% or even less than that of the global queries. I doubt it will impact much. Though if you are selling something, either products or services from your website, then I would definitely suggest you to go for https website. But then it should not be followed by each and every websites of this universe.
Honestly https sites are considered safer than http websites, and encrypted data transfer protects your website from snooping or stealing of your data. It is very much required for ecommerce websites.
For normal blogs like ours it is of no such importance.
Though a website which stores user data like credit card details, user’s social security numbers, etc. are obviously required to have secure connection, so that no one else can steal the data and use for wrong purposes.
Here are some good practices for the better ranking of your website:
Websites which opens slow is not liked by Google. They already penalized many websites for its slow speed. Enhance your website’s speed and get positive SEO impact on the ranking of your website.
