5 Differences between a Blog and Website!
Do you own a website or a blog? Do you know what the differences between a blog and website are? Do you know the nature of the content which you write on a regular basis is for a website or for a blog?
Read on this blog post of mine to know the major 5 differences between a blog and website.
Honestly when I started this blog my planning was to make it a good website, unfortunately I don’t have the resources and I failed to accomplish this task. Then I thought to change it into a blog and I guess I get a bit of success in making it a well known blog. There are some people out here in India who at least like this blog.
Although being a SEO, I can say that blog should be a must for any website, doing any businesses. But when it comes about differentiating a blog and a website, it is not a rocket science to do so, though not that much easier as well.
So here are some of the things through which we can differentiate between a blog and a website:
Normally the types of content and the frequency of the updates of content is something which can help you to differentiate between a blog and a website.
It is not a regular thing which needs to be updated on a normal website, but when it comes about a blog it is normally considered that its content is usually updated on a regular basis. Along with the regular updates, the content is being written in a personal form on a blog, but on the other hand the content written for a website looks more professional.
The tone of the content can be considered as the major factor of differences between a blog and a website.
Normally contents are presented in a different manner on these two types of sites. On a blog contents are normally arranged in a reverse chronological manner, while on a website you normally arrange things in a proper manner.
Although I am not saying that things are not arranged on a blog in a improper manner, they are also arranged in a proper manner only, but then normally they are being displayed in a reverse chronological manner only, like the latest post will be there on the top, and the oldest post at the down. You need to go through deep to located posts from some older days.
Normal conception is that a blog means a dynamic website, which is a website itself but updated on a dynamic basis.
Not only contents on a blog are arranged on the basis of their date of publishing, but they are syndicated as well. Normally we can be able to read a blog and a website as well on our browsers, but there is a special thing associated with blogs which we normally can’t see on a website. It is quite compulsory that blog will provide its readers an option of syndicate content, popularly known as feeds.
Through this option any reader can be able to read the content of your blog without even visiting it. With the help of their feed readers they can also track when your blog is being updated and having what content you published on your blog.
As I already said that a blogs are normally written in a tone which can make it a personal site. Hence a style of conversation normally goes in with every blog. It is like building a community and establishing communications with its readers on a blog.
These things are being lacked on a normal website.
Comments are something which you can see in a blog only, not on a website. Normally you can send feedbacks on a website, and not comments. The main reason being as I already told that the style of writing on a blog is to establish a conversation, and it can be completed in the form of comments only.
Normally a blog post attracts comments, replies, and many types of responses by their readers.
So these were the 5 things which can help us to differentiate between a blog and a website. I guess these were some of the reasons why a blog is usually crawled frequently by search engines than a website, as they know that a website would not update itself on a regular basis like a blog.
But then if your website is also having a blog, then it has fairly good chance to get more number of indexed pages on search engines. Also on a blog you can choose anything to write about it, which normally you can’t on a website.
Did you like this blog post of mine or not? Do you think it is useful for the community? Do let me know your opinion, comments, feedback about this blog post of mine. I will wait for your comments on this blog.
Very impressive article Alok Sir. You described the exact difference between a blog and a website.
I am looking forward to read more impressive post from you.
Regards
Swapnadip
Thank you so much Swapnadip, I am really delighted that you liked it so much 🙂 Will definitely try to write some more impressive posts for my readers. The support which you guys are showing to my sites will definitely give me the power to do so 🙂 Thank you so much.
Nicely done Alok. I was looking at the use of paragraphs and headings on your articles. Something which I learnt from you and have started using extensively on my site as well. It does increase the readability and makes it easy to go through it fast. Helps understanding so much better compared to the sites with no headings or navigation ease..
It really was one hell of a suggestion and it has proved so effective Alok. Thanks so much 🙂
You are most welcome Vinay, this was the exact point which I was telling you a few days back in a comment on your blog. You know what if you go through my blog posts, you will realize that I always try to make keyword specific headings and sub-headings, then making generic headings. It always gives a positive impact on your website as far as SEO is concerned. 🙂
Hope I can be able to become a good Guru to you 🙂 as far SEO or Blogging is concerned.
And I am not sure if I am observing it only now, but the use of the logo with the images and the images with these bright colors is really very appealing and enhances the look really well. Kudos Alok, it is looking really cool 🙂
Yes Vinay, you are right, these are really giving me a positive feeling too. Thanks to Canva through which I am being able to design those 🙂 Thank you.
Oh you most certainly are Alok, without doubt I look up to you and I have seen a lot of improvements in my site from the time I have conversed with you.. It is a nice feeling of growth 🙂
So good to hear that Vinay. I am really feeling excited about it 🙂 Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot of for writting such a guiding article. I also read the posts of shri vinay nagaraju but I did not find the comment option or contact menu.
Thank you so much Sampat Kumari jee for sharing your opinion, I am sure that the site of Vinay has both the options of Comments and Contact menu as well. Might be you did not checked the very top section and the very bottom section of the blog. Vinay you should consider this as a feedback that your prominent readers are unable to find your comment options and contact one too.
Hi Sampat Kumari,
Thank you for the info. I recently changed my commenting system, but unfortunately I am not sure why this problem is recurring. Infact even Bikram said the same that he was unable to use this commenting system via chrome and was working with his internet explorer. Thing is it is showing at my end for the chrome. I don’t know what is coming in the way. I shall definitely look into it.
Apologies for the inconvenience. You can reach me at info@inspire99.com.
Thank you Vinay, honestly I do comments on Chrome only and I never realized any issues in comments part though. Other issues which I ever faced on your site, were something which I already told you, but now I don’t see any of them on your site….
Another informative article ! Thanks Alok ..
Thank you Ananya…
Nice post, Alok (Y)
Thank you so much Ravish 🙂 You are really cutting short of your comments now 🙂 I hope I am not boring you with my posts…. 🙂
And I thought the difference is the domain name 😛 A nice and informative post. Thanks for sharing, yes though I have noticed earlier the logo is great.:)
Thank you so much Datta Ghosh 🙂 This logo of I News India is being designed by one of my friends Naveen Kumar Chauhan. He is a gem as far as designing things are concerned, and a super star when it comes to make a video…
Alok this is one of the thing that every blogger should know.
Thanks for writing such a post 🙂
Thank you so much Vivin 🙂 Good to know that you liked it….
Hi Alok,
I landed on this page via Indiblogger. This is the first time I visited your blog. Your style of presenting content is simply awesome. This is how newbies want the content to be. I’ve personally seen many pro-bloggers who don’t know the differences between a blog and a website. Thanks for sharing this informative article. I wish you great success my friend. 🙂
Thank you so much Suresh, I am really glad that you visited our blog and liked it as well. Hope your future visits will also give you some great blogs to read. 🙂
I was only aware of the last difference 😛 thanks for letting me know the others… 🙂
And please Vinay..please do something with your comments section… As most of the times I fail to comment on your site, so hiring Alok’s to do that 😛
In my case, it works in a weird way..sometimes I can comment and sometimes it prevents me from doing that 🙁 ….GRrrrrrrrr
Thank you so much Maniparna, I had informed Vinay about your concern and he is trying to rectify his blog today only. Hope you won’t have to face any such issues in future. Hope Vinay will update us about it soon 🙂
Informative..well explained :)))))))
Thank you so much Remya 🙂
One other major difference is: Website do not have a feed to subscribe but blog have.
Deep, thank you so much for sharing your comment with us, but unfortunately I already mentioned that in the form of “Content Syndication”…
Perfect distinguishion bro!
Thank you so much Sasidhar 🙂 I am glad that you liked it.
Very nicely explained.
As regards domain name, I think it is something you have to think out before starting out.
Unfortunately, I dived into blogging without knowing the nitty gritties. Now domain name cannot be changed, right?
Hey Sweety, it can be changed later on too, though it is a bit tedious solution and requires lots of effort to do so. But yes as far your blog is concerned, you can easily do so. Do let me know when and what you want to change, I will manage the transition for you 🙂
