How Social Media can be utilized by Small Businesses?
Normally we say that social media is very much important for online marketing, but what about small businesses? They don’t have so much money to invest on marketing purposes? So how social media can be utilized by small businesses?
Read on this blog post of mine to understand how small businesses can utilize this ever growing and smart medium.
Mainly people think it is too expensive to run a campaign on social media sites. Up to an extent it is true too, but then there are so many things which you can easily utilize on social media and that too for free. After all marketing on social media sites like FB, Twitter, Google+, etc. offer so many things to small businesses as well.
When it comes about utilizing these websites many small sized businesses hesitate a lot, but ideally they should not. So here are some tips for small business which might help them to utilize this popular medium of online marketing:
As we all know that the most popular social networking website is Facebook, and it provide many opportunities for small sized businesses to market their products and services. Though they have many options for paid services but still if you don’t want to pay them then also you can be able to gain many things from FB.
No matter how small business you are, but still your presence on FB is a necessity these days. Don’t try to create an account for your business, but it is always better to have a Facebook page for your business.
You can easily create a FB page and share as many posts as you want. Try to make balance in the posts, share some general posts along with some posts explaining your business. There are though many ways to gain more and more likes on your FB page, but then it is always better to go slowly-slowly and naturally.
Always trust on words of mouth publicity and if you are sharing more and more quality posts, soon you will have lots of fans over there.
Try to share some images; images are getting higher preferences than any other text posts on FB, twitter and G+ as well.
Try to combine different types of posts like text, images, graphics, animation, videos, etc. and try to tag your followers in your post. Mind it, that you should not tag unnecessarily to your follower, else they might annoy from it.
Although I am big fan of Twitter, even I like this tweeting bird more than FB. You can anytime get response from me with twitter, but then you cannot expect a response from me on my Facebook accounts or pages, the reason being the fact that it is the simplest medium of marketing and attracts instant results.
You all know the fact that you can advertise things on Twitter as well, but it is better to be utilized in free only if you are having a limited budget. I guess there are many business organizations which don’t like twitter. It is because there are so many things which come and goes by over here within a second that it is hard to get the attention.
But then it is a medium which can give you a quick and great response. You should know the way how you can utilize it.
I would suggest every small business to open an account on twitter and share useful posts. Believe me the success of any campaigns over these social media sites entirely depends on your approach and content which you are creating there.
Thus try to utilize hashtags to get the attention, respond to queries related to your businesses, try to find relevant tweets to your business, these are some of the tips which can easily give you a success at Twitter, but then learning these things will take a long time.
Google+ is almost similar to FB only, the difference being the fact that it is the product of Google only and many people think that it gives a boost to their organic ranking as well. I won’t comment on this thing in this blog post, though it is true that your presence on social media sites gives a boost to your websites ranking, and hence I must say everyone should utilize these mediums.
Like I said to create a FB page similarly you need to create a G+ page for your business, and share your posts as you do on FB. Only thing which you can get better than all these from Google+ is the Google Authorship feature, which is different than all these things. You can read this blog post of mine on how to get Google Authorship.
You need to create a company profile over here and share similar things which you share on other social media sites. LinkedIn is the medium where you can get most genuine profiles and thus you can target real business from here.
If you are good into developing creative videos, no matter of what size or length, then your business must need a YouTube channel to show it.
Create a channel on YouTube with your Google account only and share your videos over there.
I know when you are doing online business then you are competing with the globe, the you should also display your presence in a global medium as well.
Try Pinterest and share your images with the world, it is a place which you are going to like for your business purposes.
Many businesses hesitate in investing their time on these websites, but ideally these social media sites are quite good for the brand awareness, customer engagement, your publicity, and traffic as well.
If you are neglecting these mediums then you are actually losing a big thing. Being a fresh start up, you cannot simply ignore them.
And finally do I need to say anything about Blogs and Blogging?
What do you think about this blog post of mine? Do let me know your feedback, comments or anything in the form of comments below. I would love to hear what you say about this blog post of mine.
Good one Alok. It is a nice combination of social media. I did use social media well for our home site Royal mysore Walks.
But somehow extending the same to inspire99 has been a challenge. That is perhaps cos the number of follows need to improve on this front. Also twitter, although I really love it and feel that it is less noise and more productivity, somehow I havent been able to reach its full potential.
Quora is an interesting one for bloggers though. It can help driving a good business depending on the type we are involved in 🙂
Hey Vinay, see number of followers are a serious consideration, but I would suggest you not to think about them as something which you are lacking. Did you have seen the pages having more than thousands of likes, but did you noticed about the activity on the pages? Hardly one or two followers give a damn to their content. The main thing which we should look for is the number of activities on your social media profile, not the number of likes.
Heard many good words about Quora from you, I guess it is the hi time I should open an account there as well 🙂 Thank you so much Vinay for sharing such a useful comments with us. 🙂
I too prefer twitter over fb. Now a days social media has more influence than other media platforms and available almost free for advertising purpose.
Thank you so much Ravish. Yes Twitter is my favorite social media site, it gives you quick results and a satisfaction too.
That other day we were having a discussion regarding the same. Your article really helped Sir.
Thank you so much Datta, I am glad that you liked it. 🙂
Oh yes very much in agreement with you Alok…Establishing in multiple such social platforms (and that too for free) is a great way to network. It does helps a lot in building the business and also helps in exposure in this much larger world. The WWW has simply some awesome potentials if tapped rightly and for right purpose. I like how you always enumerate you details. It’s much easier to culminate ones thoughts and sensible for readers. I have seen this typical method in Vinay’s blogs too.
Thank you so much Vidhya, Vinay is truly a good blogger and knows how to present things to his readers.
You said it absolutely right that “The WWW has simply some awesome potentials if tapped rightly and for right purpose” It is very much true.
Social media has a great importance and this post gives a good guidance about using it.
Thank you so much Sampat Kumari jee 🙂 It is in fact a truth that social media is having a great importance in our life these days.
Nice post Alok,
I think that which media to use is completely depends on business niche..
For example,
If you have a business like Global sourcing or finance, then LinkedIn is the perfect one.
If your business is related to dress or common products, then Facebook is the platform for you
If your niche is Fashion or food related, then pinterest is the perfect one.
Rightly said Kushal, thanks for your visit and comments on my blog 🙂 I am glad that you liked it.
