How to Increase the Effectiveness of Your Blog?
A blog is considered as an effective blog if it has more loyal visitors, who share their views, opinions, feedback’s about your post and your links to other social networking websites. Read on this blog to know how to increase the effectiveness of your blog.
I guess a few days back I wrote a post on how to make your blog readable. The purpose of this blog post was to make your blog as a good looking, professional and wonderful post which can attract more people to read more from your blog. That is actually also a way to increase the reader’s engagement, though in this blog post I will explain you further about steps which might help you to increase the effectiveness of your blog.
Why should I worry for effectiveness of my blog?
I guess this question might come into the mind of some of the readers of my blog. Let me tell you about a few things which actually inspire many others to blog and these are name, fame, gaining traffic, monetizing, thus earning, building brand, growing audience who can hear you, and creating affinity towards your blog.
Ultimately the prime goal of any blog is to attract links, like and shares, and hence the ranking in search engines.
The effectiveness of your blog can be increased by following things:
No matters on what niche do you blog; try to differentiate your blog with some unique, informative and useful posts. Uniqueness is the key behind the effectiveness of your blog. If you have the same design or almost similar types of posts then it won’t help you anyway to attract new visitors. Those who will visit your blog once will ignore visiting them next time as they are already aware that your blog is not unique.
When I am saying this I simply don’t pointing towards having original content. Actually the presentation of the content also matters a lot. You might have an original article, but since the blog design of your blog is so common that people can predict about the content even without opening the full website.
You know what why a dish of a restaurant of a five star hotel seems better than a roadside hotel? Honestly the so called roadside hotel or dhaba can actually have a better dish than that of the five start hotel, but then the presentation of the same will make all the differences.
No matter how good, hygiene or healthy dish you prepare, but if you won’t be able to present it nicely, people will have a wrong perception about it.
So always try to develop your blog in a unique way. Try to present your content in a beautiful manner.
Now this is something which I already have discussed so many times over different websites. Using any sub-domain, no matter if it is free or of your own domain name only, is harmful for the reputation of your own blog. Having blogspot or wordpress sub-domain is itself questions the seriousness of the blogger, and then if you have a domain name and using a sub-domain like blog.sitename.com then also it is not that good in my opinion.
Instead what I would suggest you all is to go with a subfolder on your server so that the URL of your blog should look like sitename.com/blog is a more professional approach and it also helps building reputation too.
All those bloggers who are having a blog in blogger (free blogspot extension) or wordpress (free wordpress.com domain) is suggested to upgrade their site and at least have your own domain name to build some reputation. I am not saying that those who have those blogs are not having any reputation, they obviously has better reputation than mine as well, but then having own domain will increase the reputation of their blogs further.
The more you will give to others, the more you will gain for yourself only.
This is a simple principle which is actually followed in our real life. To be very frank many bloggers do understand this, but then there are a few who simply ignore this principle.
Being a blogger who want to increase the engagements on their own blog; should first participate in posting comments on other’s blog and thus add value in those sites. Remember my blog post on how to do comments on blogs? Don’t ever try to build a relationship with other bloggers with comments like “nice blog”, “good post”, etc. Posting these types of comments is like showing disrespect to the other blogger.
Always try to respect the efforts being given by any other blogger.
When you start adding value to other’s blog then only you will start earning participation on your own blog, thus a better engagement of your visitors.
The best way to gain attraction of others is to mention them, or quote them, and refer them on your blog. You can also do so on your own social networking profiles. You can tweet about a blogger, quote something from a blog, or refer some bloggers. Similarly you can share the same types of thing on your Facebook profile as well.
Actually these steps will definitely help you to build strong relationships with other bloggers.
Now over here you need to take care of one thing. Try not to make relationships with highly influential bloggers. It is actually not that much hard to get the attention of those influencers, but then getting anything in reverse of this from them is next to impossible. For them it is quite obvious; they won’t feel good in mentioning a weaker blogger from their blog or social profile.
On the other hand it is really too hard to get an influencer who will really support newbie bloggers. If you by chance ever came through such persons who does so, always try to maintain the relationship with them.
So always try to mention, or quote mid level influencers, who can return the favor and helps you too.
You can also try to get people who usually help others from your own niche or industry. A mention from them will surely boost your blog’s engagement by the relevant audience.
BTW I am sure you must have noticed that I do follow the same into my blog posts and refer and link to bloggers whom I like and sometimes quotes them too on my social profiles. Please do let me know what do you think about this? Or what are your opinion about me as a blogger, so that I can further try to improve myself.
I always say that it is better to post less, than posting garbage types of posts. Always create less, but better content, which can be liked by others. Spend more time on researching, and thus developing the most important content which you can.
If you do have budget then also it is advisable to invest wisely on unique and informative content for your blog.
Try to do share some graphics with your blog, this is something which can highly influence others and increase the engagement of your blog.
Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. should be used wisely. You should not use those sites to purely promote your own content. Try to make a plan in which you have the combination of different types of content.
Try to share the same things a few more times, than sharing it once and then forget it. Social media site’s nature is like that once buried no one will ever give a damn to look towards too deep to like and share your posts. Thus it is better to share the same things a few times so that it should come into the eyes of all your followers.
I am sure that these ideas were a few which can help you to increase the engagement of your blog. Please do share some points which I might have missed over here or which I myself am not aware of. Please also do share your opinion, feedback, etc. about this blog post of mine.
Hi…
you have included all the points for increasing the blog effectiveness in a simple and lucid manner… Thanks for it… May be using blog networks and submitting blogs to search engines are also ways of increasing blog effectiveness…
Thanks Technophilo for your visit and comment over here. Honestly I don’t believe at all at submitting blogs to search engines. Using blog networks or blogging community sites is a good idea though.
Keep sharing …your tips are really useful and I am so happy to have discovered your blog..I will be highly obliged if you could review my blogs :))
Thanks a lot Alka. I am really delighted that you liked my blogs so much. I will surely review your blogs soon.
Thanks Alok, I have slowly started doing these and the results are really nice. Earlier I used to write about 3 article per day without worrying about the content and presentation and the traffic was still low. Now I have come to 1 per day but I do spend a lot of time on it and the response has been very positive and inspiring :).. The idea of a quality article and adding value go hand in hand thus making it a very fulfilling experience..
Apart from that, the sub domains are really not the best feeling, even I have a block against them, kinda gives me a feeling that it is not a serious venture.
Very true Vinay, you are doing an awesome work. I am seeing lots of improvement in your blog posts now. One thing which you still need to improve is choosing the keyword oriented sub-headers for your blogs. Right now you are putting it well, but then you can further improve on that. Rest my best wishes are always there and I am also there to guide you for anything 🙂 And will also learn so many things from you as well.
Thank you for the write up, it is indeed very useful. I do need to adhere to some of the suggestions listed. Thanks once again 🙂

Hi Alok,
Again a beautiful post , direct and to the point, very well written. I am a new blogger and these kind of suggestion is what we newbies actually need.
I am coming up with only one post per week but my blog is usually lengthy …very long. Sometimes I have broken one blog into three parts and then they were little shorter but then someone said that my blogs topics sometimes look similar to each other. How should I handle that?
I agree with Vinay looking at a sub-domain only makes me feel that its just a nonchalant post and not a serious venture.
Alok, What about those people(like me), who want to, but can’t devote time to networking and commenting etc etc.. is ‘buying traffic’ a good idea ? Then some of these visitors might come back and hence the engagement!
Dear Jyoti, I am really thankful that you visited this post and shared your opinion about it. This appreciation truly means a lot to me.
Instead of breaking your posts into three posts, why don’t you break it into two only, and why not a single post? See I have mentioned in a few posts earlier and to Vinay as well, that if you Google something competitive and you will realize that at least 5-6 pages coming on first page are having a length of more than 1000 words. Thus if you really want to compete in search results, it is better to have lengthy posts. But then just to make lengthy posts you should never compromise on the quality of the same.
As far as traffic is concerned, what I can suggest you is, buying traffic is the worse idea. I would never suggest you to go for it, unless you are either running a business from it and buying traffic from the genuine and authentic sources like Google Adwords, or PPC ads on Bing, Yahoo, or ads on LinkedIn, or Facebook, etc. I do understand that it is hard to devote time for networking, but then today it is becoming a must for every web businesses. What I can suggest you is to devote only an hour on a daily basis on sites like FB, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, and IndiBlogger. Devoting only one hour on these sites, but daily, will start giving you good returns very soon. I know that you are good at writing and hence you can create some very good small sized content for those sites FB, T, G+ and then giving some time on Pin and IB will return you really good.
Do let me know for any help. I will always be there for you.
Nice post, thanks for sharing… its really helpful
Thank you Benaya 🙂 Welcome to I News India…
Very integral points that you have enumerated, Alok.
I would also suggest varying text with images, to avoid monotony and boredom.
Also, sometimes a one-liner or quote , if effective enough can form an entire post.
Thank you Sweety, I am glad that you liked it. You said it right, my limited knowledge of English knowledge and Photoshop are restricting me for those things, but don’t worry I will definitely try to improve them as per your suggested things. 🙂 Thanks once again for suggesting such a nice things.
Thanks a lot for sharing..worth reading !!!
Good Day Alok
Thank you Veena and same to you too 🙂 I am glad that you liked it. Keep on visiting I News India and I am sure you will like other blogs of mine as well.
Alok, your tips have always helped… even having some your points in the back of the head, one gets to really looking at following them is when you see it put down for you like you do… and I have almost always lazed away from leaving a comment in your blog till I read your point no 3 today… hahaha
Thank you Jithesh. I am glad to know that you liked all the blog posts of mine. I am also glad that you shared your comment today with us on I News India. Thank you very much Jithesh as such appreciating comments means a lot, especially for me, as it inspires me to write further better blogs 🙂
Nuggets of wisdom… but I have a question on sharing content on Social Media. I find it extremely irritating when bloggers keep sharing the same link 10 times on the platforms… I guess others would too. Why then should I re post the same content in a)multiple media b)multiple times
isn’t that an overdose for people i connect to?
Yes Anks, you said it right that sharing the same thing again and again on different mediums is really bad for those who are connected with you. This is the reason why it is said that you should share the things again and again, but not on a regular basis or within a single day only. The point is that you should not forget about your post, do share it once, then do share some other stuffs as well, then say after a gap of 2-3 days once again share the same post.
Why am I saying this is because there are many people who might have missed the post which you shared a few days back. So they might get the chance to check it when you shared it for the second time.
But then as far as getting success in social media is concerned, you should maintain a healthy proportion of normal posts and posts with your links in the posts which you made there.
Thank you Anks for sharing your comment over here. I am glad that you liked my posts.
An excellent article presented in an effective manner, Thanks to Alokji
Thank you Sampat Kumari jee 🙂
