Coming back to the match, this is for the second time only when these two teams are playing to each other. It was around 20 years back when in a friendly match Colombia defeated Greece by 2-0. This match was played on 5th June 1994.
As I mentioned in my last post that in this group one team which will proceed towards the knock out round is undoubtedly Colombia, if something unusual won’t happen. Undoubtedly it is the injury of the star striker Radamel Falcao, which can cost a bit heavy to Colombia.
If you don’t know about Flacao, then let me tell you that he is the star striker of the Colombia team and who did 9 goals in the world cup qualifiers, which itself is a record.
At present the ranking of Colombia is 8 while that of Greece is 12. Though you cannot take Greece as a underweight team in this tournament. They are also the European Champions of 2004.
The moment match between Colombia and Greece started; I thought that it will be a score line of 2-0 in favor of Colombia. Almost at the end of the match it was clear that the score is going to remain the same, but then when only a few seconds of the extra time was left, James Rodríguez who wears the jersey number 10 for Colombia did the magic.
Earlier today morning only I was thinking about James as the player needed to watch for Colombia in absence of Falco, who was sitting in the crowd to cheer their national team due to injury.
James Rodríguez did the third goal for Colombia against Greece in their FIFA World Cup 2014 opener and finally the score line displayed 3-0 for Colombia. Even after 20 years of their first encounter Greece failed to score any goal against Colombia. Though it is also true that they got so many beautiful chances to score a goal in today’s match, but unluckily nothing got converted into goals.
To be very frank, one attempt by Gekas of Greece in 63rd minute of the match was almost a goal. The cross from Kone came to Torosidis and Gekas took this opportunity and his header touched the crossbar and yet another attempt made by Greece failed.
So finally the score line of the match was like this:
First goal in 5th minute of the match by Pablo Armero, then second goal by Teofilo Gutierrez in 58th minute of the match and then the last goal by James Rodriguez in the 3rd minute of the extra time.
I hope you too watched this match and I am sure you all are excited about all the matches of the World Cup 2014.
Please do share your opinion about all these things in the form of comments. I will be awaiting your responses on all these things.
I was expecting some good activity from Samaras, as he showed in Germany Vs Greece QF in Euro Cup where he single handedly did the only goal for the team. But, nothing happened.
Don’t worry Kajo, he is a real sportsperson and the sportsmanship which he displayed in the game was really praiseworthy. I am sure he will perform in next matches.
