  1. Thats a very interesting point Alok. Most of my posts stay about 300-600 range cos I feel it kinda gets repetitive after that and also I try to focus on the value add a reader get from it. There were a couple of questions on my mind – when you say user generated content, I am assuming that it refers to the comments and discussions after a post. Kindly correct me if I am missing something here.

Also something I find works well with the frequency on my site is 2 articles per day! But again the traffic has remained quite the same from the past month I guess, any thoughts on how to keep pushing it further. I do like your ideas on SEO, they are a good mix of value add and technology as well. I was wondering how we could reach more people with the ideas. Thoughts on it would be extremely helpful 🙂

    Cheers,
    V+

    1. Hey Vinay, first of all a big thanks for your trust and believe on me as an SEO 🙂 It really means a lot to me.

Second you are right, comments and discussion are the things which comes into user generated content and plays a vital role in the SEO of the page.

Third as far as length is concerned, do one thing, select one topic of your post and do the Google search, open the first 10 results and see how many words of content are there. Here don’t only include the words of the main content, but also include the user generated content as well.

On an average you will find that 8-9 out of those 10 results are having more than 1000+ words.

It is a clear indication that Google since the Panda update is more keen towards liking lengthy content.

Another thing which I can suggest you, though I too lack into that, is to pick the killer looking title of your blog post. A good title will automatic help you to win half the battle.

There is no harm in putting 2 or even more articles per day, but then you should realize are you giving enough time to promote those two posts? Let me give you a small example, if you post both of them on IndiBlogger, you will see that both of them are getting less votes and visitors than if you are submitting only one on IndiVine on a particular day.

Similarly if you see the stats form FB, twitter, etc. you will realize that if you are promoting only one post on those sites, you will be getting better number of visits on those days compared to the days when you are sharing 2 posts.

I might be wrong in this as well, as I have analyzed it from a few sites of mine only. Your analysis might yield some other sort of results as well, and depending on the same you can decide about. Like I do share or post only one post on a daily basis, based on my own calculations.

Do let me know about what do you think about this?

  2. Thanks for the info, Alok.
I thought readers dislike long Posts. Some had advised me to write shorter ones…

    1. Thank you Anita that you found this blog post as an informative one. It all depends on how well you can put the things which you want to say. You can also make a good post with only 100-200 words and a few good graphics. On the other hand you can elaborate the same things in a 2000 word article.

So the best thing is that you should adopt what your readers love to read.

  3. Thank you Alok, that’s a very helpful response and something I can start implementing right away. I did search a few top posts on google and like you said they are lengthier post, but my worry usually is lengthier the post the audience might feel a little distracted. Although google does matter a lot, I still think the purpose of my writing is to try and add value and if possible try to offer a different perspective for the existing challenges. Of course I am wrong a lot of times but I guess that’s the beauty of exploring 🙂 ..

I am very much in consensus with the second point, two articles per day on indiblogger killed my traffic and hence I resolved to only one per day now so that it gets more focus. Putting two up there was quite disastrous to my site..

But I guess I am very much open for experimentation, will try out a few things and keep you posted, hopefully I might stumble into a few answers 🙂

    Thanks mate 🙂

    1. You are most welcome Vinay, hope you will experiment something new and I will also be able to learn something new from it. 🙂 Looking towards your experimentation 🙂
