How vital is the Length of the Content in SEO?
We already have discussed about the ideal length of a blog or page content as far as SEO is concerned. Many of our readers have asked me how vital the length of the content in SEO is.
And hence here is my response, as per a new conversation which I found a few days back in a thread of Google Webmaster Helps.
As I already discussed about it in past, here are some of my posts:
How to Produce Panda-friendly Content!
In this blog I already mentioned that after Panda updates of Google, length of the content seriously matters, and as per me a page with 600+ words is considered good.
How to Rank Your Website in Google!
As in this blog post of mine I illustrated about the length of the content being an important factor towards the ranking of your website. You can check some other factors along with the length of the content being an important aspect for the ranking of your website in search engines.
Again with this blog post I already mentioned that the word count of the blog post matters a lot while increasing the ranking of the particular blog, along with so many other factors of the blog. Do check this blog and do let me know if I missed any important criteria in it?
Undoubtedly content is the most important factors required for the SEO of your website. Search engine optimization like the ones at adult e-commerce seo always give importance to the content of your website. As far as the length of the content is concerned, I explained on some of my previous blog posts that ideally you should avoid the short articles; rather you can put a blog post of around 600+ words for getting the maximum results from your SEO campaign which may be serviced by this agency.
While recently Google specified that the length of the content is not at much important as far as SEO is concerned.
As I always emphasize on putting quality content, Google as a search engines also emphasize on the same. No matter how lengthy are you making the content for your website, if there is no unique values coming from it, it has no importance in the eyes of search engines.
I have always emphasized that we should post unique, informative, and nicely-written articles or piece of content on our website.
The similar was the response of John Muller from Google at this Google Web Master Help thread.
As per John, it hardly matters if you are posting so many articles or content on your website on a daily basis. As per him it also hardly matters if you are posting some quite lengthy posts or some small one only. As per him quality is always better than quantity.
Ideally, instead of writing so many poor quality articles / blog posts / content on your website, which are not being liked by many people, you should try to develop a single post, which can have some unique things, informative information’s and useful to your readers.
These types of content always work not only for your readers, but also for the search engines. And hence you should focus on this.
On the other hand, if you analyze the search results of any competitive keywords in Google, you will find that mostly 9 out of the 10 links of the home page will have a content of around 1000+ words. Frankly, if you check them seriously, you will find that the main content of your webpage is not only the factor which plays the role to rank them for keywords in search engines, the user generated content also plays a very crucial role along with it.
No matter how short content you have on your site, if there is a huge discussion about the same on your site about the same issue; it will definitely be liked by search engines. They will thus obviously rank it.
I guess I have been able to resolve your queries about the length of the content of your web pages, no matter if it is a blog or a static site. Please do let me know if you like this blog post and information. I would love to hear your comments for it.
Thats a very interesting point Alok. Most of my posts stay about 300-600 range cos I feel it kinda gets repetitive after that and also I try to focus on the value add a reader get from it. There were a couple of questions on my mind – when you say user generated content, I am assuming that it refers to the comments and discussions after a post. Kindly correct me if I am missing something here.
Also something I find works well with the frequency on my site is 2 articles per day! But again the traffic has remained quite the same from the past month I guess, any thoughts on how to keep pushing it further. I do like your ideas on SEO, they are a good mix of value add and technology as well. I was wondering how we could reach more people with the ideas. Thoughts on it would be extremely helpful 🙂
Cheers,
V+
Hey Vinay, first of all a big thanks for your trust and believe on me as an SEO 🙂 It really means a lot to me.
Second you are right, comments and discussion are the things which comes into user generated content and plays a vital role in the SEO of the page.
Third as far as length is concerned, do one thing, select one topic of your post and do the Google search, open the first 10 results and see how many words of content are there. Here don’t only include the words of the main content, but also include the user generated content as well.
On an average you will find that 8-9 out of those 10 results are having more than 1000+ words.
It is a clear indication that Google since the Panda update is more keen towards liking lengthy content.
Another thing which I can suggest you, though I too lack into that, is to pick the killer looking title of your blog post. A good title will automatic help you to win half the battle.
There is no harm in putting 2 or even more articles per day, but then you should realize are you giving enough time to promote those two posts? Let me give you a small example, if you post both of them on IndiBlogger, you will see that both of them are getting less votes and visitors than if you are submitting only one on IndiVine on a particular day.
Similarly if you see the stats form FB, twitter, etc. you will realize that if you are promoting only one post on those sites, you will be getting better number of visits on those days compared to the days when you are sharing 2 posts.
I might be wrong in this as well, as I have analyzed it from a few sites of mine only. Your analysis might yield some other sort of results as well, and depending on the same you can decide about. Like I do share or post only one post on a daily basis, based on my own calculations.
Do let me know about what do you think about this?
Thanks for the info, Alok.
I thought readers dislike long Posts. Some had advised me to write shorter ones…
Thank you Anita that you found this blog post as an informative one. It all depends on how well you can put the things which you want to say. You can also make a good post with only 100-200 words and a few good graphics. On the other hand you can elaborate the same things in a 2000 word article.
So the best thing is that you should adopt what your readers love to read.
Thank you Alok, that’s a very helpful response and something I can start implementing right away. I did search a few top posts on google and like you said they are lengthier post, but my worry usually is lengthier the post the audience might feel a little distracted. Although google does matter a lot, I still think the purpose of my writing is to try and add value and if possible try to offer a different perspective for the existing challenges. Of course I am wrong a lot of times but I guess that’s the beauty of exploring 🙂 ..
I am very much in consensus with the second point, two articles per day on indiblogger killed my traffic and hence I resolved to only one per day now so that it gets more focus. Putting two up there was quite disastrous to my site..
But I guess I am very much open for experimentation, will try out a few things and keep you posted, hopefully I might stumble into a few answers 🙂
Thanks mate 🙂
You are most welcome Vinay, hope you will experiment something new and I will also be able to learn something new from it. 🙂 Looking towards your experimentation 🙂
