  3. Very nice post Alok! Yes I agree wid most of d points. Couldn’t understand though how WordPress/blogger can b used even if v tk up our own domain name!

    1. Thanks a lot Amrita for posting comment on this blog. I am really glad that you like it. As far as using WordPress/Blogger in self hosted domain is concerned, it is similar to the way as I am doing with I News India or Tech Acid. You can use them with your own domain name, it is not at all different then the way you use them. Though I have not written much on blogger one, but I have written a post in past through which you can understand this thing properly with respect to WordPress. Do check WordPress.com vs. Self Hosted WordPress – Which one is Better?

  4. Relevant points, Alok. Will help Bloggers.
Very nicely shared! Some of the tips you had recommended me earlier. 🙂

  5. Very informative post.. I’m actually thinking of having a self-hosted blog….I’m currently running on WP. Would seek your help in future…( read would pester you ) 😛

  6. Yes Anita, Thanks for your comment, am glad you like it, frankly the idea of this blog came through that conversation only. You only inspired me for this post.

  7. Thanks Maniparna. Am glad that you like it, you can anytime pester me… I am always available for you all…

  8. Very informative. But is not posting everyday difficult for someone with a day job ?

    1. Thanks a lot Puru for your comment. Yes you said it right that posting daily is really difficult for someone who do a full time job and then do blogging as part time. But still you can have a fixed schedule, like you will post 2 posts on weekends, or you will post 3 posts a week, etc. This fixed schedule will always help your readers to track your site, as they will be aware when your next post will come live.

  9. I agree no less with you…Yes, paid domain is good but off late they are so much in demand that you have to shell a lot of money to acquire the one you like…It has to be substantiated with some revenue model somewhere without diluting the whole purpose of blogging and communication.

To me, if you are serious about blogging, then you [the person] will definitely go for domain name 🙂

    1. Thanks numerounity for your comment and appreciation. I am really delighted that you like it 🙂

  10. really informnative!!!!!thinking of as self hosted blog!!!!!!!!

    1. Undoubtedly this is the biggest mistake which any blogger do. Instead of having self hosted site they prefer to go with blogspot or wordpress blog, which is tactically wrong.

Thanks Remyasean for your visit and comments over here.

  11. Hi Alok,
I enjoyed reading your article. It was very informative. I’m not making much of mistakes I think! I wanted to use a custom domain, I can’t afford to that 🙁

    1. Thanks a lot Suvin, I am really delighted that you liked the post 🙂

I can understand your feelings. Try to monetize your blog and earn at least that much amount which can enable you to purchase a custom domain for you. Blogging is also an investment buddy, the more you will invest, the more you will earn too. I am not saying that investment can only be made in cash, but it can also include your time and effort on to it. My best wishes are always with you. Do let me know if you need any help from me.

  12. Yes, you mentioned it correctly these are all common mistakes which every beginner does

    1. Thanks Vijay. I am really glad that you liked it.

  13. An excellent article. This article will work as a guide starting from abc to xyz. Thanks for so nice narration

    1. Thank you Sampat Kumari Jee 🙂

Great post.I especially liked the reasons for blogging-it was an exhaustive list.

    1. Thank you so much Indu. I am delighted that you liked it 🙂

  15. I am doing first mistake, no self domain. This post has motivated me more to get one.
    Thank you Alok 🙂

    1. You are absolutely right Meenal. As I said in one of my other blog that using a free domain name from blogspot or wordpress.com is like living in a rented house, which you can assume as yours, you decorate it with all your energy, but at the end it will always remain of someone else. The house owner can anytime throw out the tenant from their home.

So I would always suggest you to go for your own domain…

Do you ever think that on a sudden day your newspaper did not come, just because they did not publish on that particular day, what would be your reaction?

You will simply move to some other newspaper. Similarly don’t give any reasons to your reader base to move towards some other options. workable example. This post is about one year old but looks like as fresh and relevant as today. Thnx for guiding bloggers like me .

    1. 🙂 Very true Yogi Saraswat jee 🙂 Very much agrees with your points.

  17. Hi Alok,
I completely agree with you that, all the things are listed should be avoided by Bloggers. Unique articles and using a unique design is one of the things that make a blog better.
Some weeks ago, I also wrote a similar article on my blog which was 17 Most Common WordPress Mistakes Made by New Bloggers. Please have a look at that as well.

    1. Thank you so much Rohit for sharing your link and comment over here. Your post is also an awesome one 🙂

  18. Alokji you simply nailed it but the thing I fail to understand is how to draw people to know that there is this awesome blog and they should read it. Plus many people on social media see bloggers post but don’t engage on it although all the above points are carefully followed. In contrast to this professional online portals many times put crappy post yet there are 1000s of shares and engagement on it.

    1. You are absolutely right Judy, some people are there on social media who can click on like, without actually checking the content and consider them as a waste for your blog. On the other hand those who really want to check your content will surely go through it.

As far as reaching those is concerned it can happen with the help of SEO. Will come up with a new post on your query soon.

  19. A perfect blogging guide, must for people like me:)

    1. Thank you so much gorgeous lady. It is always a pleasure to get complement from gems. 🙂

  20. I have just realized some of my follies after going through your post . Thanks Alok ji !

    1. You are most welcome Mam 🙂 Thanks for the appreciation 🙂

  21. I am glad I read this post. I was doing such mistakes. I need to really buck up on the promotion part. I recently learned how to write SEO friendly articles.

  22. Very very insightful post. Yes it is good to have your own domain and self hosted blog, I too started with a free blogger blog, but now I treat my self hosted blogs as my babies.

    Hey Alok

Great list. I’d like to add one! ‘You write in block paragraphs and don’t reformat your post to emphasise certain messages’.

It’s true that people reading a post/article will skip through to find key messages. Why not make their life easier (and allow them to read efficiently) by making words bold, italic, using bullet points, increasing text font, in order to allow key points to emerge.

    1. Thanks for sharing your opinion Shivam… 🙂
