How to Be Self Motivated!
One of my most favorite lines is: When the world says, “Give up”, Hope whispers, “Try it one more time.” Those who are in touch with me through my personal mail id are aware that this is my signature quote over there.
Obstacles are something which can stop you to be self motivated. The reason why I planned to write this blog is I have the responsibility of motivating my teammates, sometimes it is hard to get motivation for myself also, and how will I be able to motivate my teammates?
I am sure many of our readers also face the same in their own life as well.
Ever thought about the reasons why we get de-motivated? Well we will discuss about it in details, but as per me, stress is the prime reason behind getting de-motivated.
We all are facing some kind of stress in our life. Facing those small-small problems, and that too on a regular interval, add on the stress level in our life and thus we feel de-motivated.
Here are some quick steps which can help us to be self motivated:
Remain Calm: Always try to remain calm; it can help us to tackle the situation properly.
Smile: A smile is the biggest medicine for self motivation.
Think Positive: Try to be positive at all the times.
Think I Can Do It: Always think that you can do it.
Do Something Funny: It can allow you to forget the worse thing.
Well, saying all these is quite easier than doing. I know remaining calm, smiling, positive thinking, etc. does not work at times. It becomes too difficult to hold your nerve, just because someone is poking you, or playing with your patience level.
But in my honest opinion, there is no point in wasting time with de-motivational thoughts, rather it is our own duty to recover from the situation and motivate others as well. There are many people who always look towards you to get motivation, while remain sad for some unwanted things will make them de-motivated as well.
Reasons behind Lack of Motivation
As I mentioned above that we will discuss about the reasons, here are some of the reasons which I think stop us from being motivated:
Stress
As we already discussed about stress, and its impact on our life. We all are facing some kind of stresses in our life. We think about something which is impossible, or which we cannot be able to deliver on time, and it start building stress inside us, which further stops us from being motivated. There are few people out here (like me :)) who can easily cope up with stress, and feeling overwhelmed, but not all are of the same nature.
I have seen many friends of mine, who can allow the stress to ruin their life. Stress can take up a significant amount of emotional bandwidth of their life.

Depression
Other than stress, depression is another situation which cannot allow you to feel motivated. At times we all can have the lack of interest in our daily activities, while a few days back the same activities were used to be pleasurable to us. Sometimes in a situation in which they notice that truly incapable people are being promoted at workplace, while with their honest effort they failed to get the appreciation, they really start thinking that they are not capable of succeeding.
Many a times I have seen my team members in similar situations, and I normally prefer to tackle them with care and love, so that they cannot make any further mistakes in the task allotted to them. Normally low self confidence level stops them to meet the deadlines, and that is why I always try to boost the confidence level of my team, so that they cannot miss any deadlines.

Fear of Failure
One of the most common reasons behind the stage of de-motivation is the fear of failure, which resides in our mind.
The primary reason behind this fear of failure factor is actually our education system, or parenting system which brings the perfectionist attitude inside us. Normally we consider mistakes as failures, which is not true. Mistakes are part of every human beings life. We cannot ignore them, but we can learn many things from our mistakes.
In case of any mistake, we should have the tendency of identifying the same, and accepting the truth to us. Hiding or blaming others for our mistakes is not at all a good approach.
On the other hand in case of failures also, we should always remember that being failure in doing something is not the end of the world. What will happen if you failed in doing some task? Maximum you can be jobless for a few days, but it won’t be treated as the end of your life.
Let me tell you two secrets of my own life, once I was forced to resign from my job, but it won’t stopped me to reach here, I took it in a very positive manner and come out of that company, and left them too behind after 2-3 years only. Professional failures are a part of our life; don’t make them as big as they can ruin your own and your family life as well.
The other instance which is coming in my mind is of when I got detected with diabetes, for me it was a big shock, and literally for a few moment I thought that it is the end of my world, as sweets were the most loved items of my daily diet, but I recovered from this thought within a few hours, and decided to maintain the blood sugar level so that I can eat everything but in a limited way.
So why I mentioned these two secrets of my own life over here is just because of the fact that we all should never take failures or mistakes as a very serious offence, rather we should realize the fact and go ahead with the lessons learnt from those mistakes or failures.

How to Be Self Motivated
So we discussed about the general reasons behind the lack of motivation, now we will discuss about how to be self motivated, and how to sustain the motivational level when you are struggling to do so.
The most important thing which can help us at these situations is to identify the root cause of the problem. If you are aware about the main reason why you are not feeling motivated, you can easily help yourself to overcome the same situation.
Pause A Bit
Once you realize that you are not feeling the motivation, hold yourself back for a few moments. I have seen many people who put all their energy in doing something and unfortunately if they don’t achieve the desired results they broke down easily. Once you realize that you are not getting the desired results, you should take a break from doing the same, I am sure after the break you can come up again with the desired results.
Gradually increase your energy level to do something, don’t put your 100% at the very first instance.
Fresh Start
As I already mentioned that doing a fresh start will motivate us to achieve the goal once again. I remember one famous line about it, don’t exactly remember who wrote that, but, it was: every morning is a new day, and I strictly follow the same. When I wake up in the morning, first thing I do is to thank God and then think that as it is a new day, I will have to start the pending works as if they are a new work.
This approach gives new energy to me to tackle the hurdles in my life.
Don’t Neglect Your Daily Routines
When you are not feeling motivated, you first start avoiding your regular works, which is not a good approach. What I normally do is to strictly doing the same stuff in the similar way when I realize I am not in a good mood. Your accountability is something which helps you to get motivated.
Many people think that since they are feeling bore, they can start something new, but after a few days they get bored from the same as well, and left doing that new work as well. This way they actually waste too much energy.
Eliminate Negative Thoughts
Negative thoughts are something which can always stop you to achieve what you deserve. This is why I always say that you should know to replace your negative thoughts with the positive one. Doing this is not that difficult too, you just need to spend some quality times with some kids or elderly people, or you can also spend time with some positive minded people (like me of course ;)).
I can do it, is the best thing which you can tell yourself with any task. Instead of saying oh God, this is too difficult for me, you should say I can do it, and you can analyze yourself that your approach has changed.
Do Things which You Like
I guess I have mentioned it in the past as well, when you are feeling de-motivated, you should spend some time in doing things which gives pleasure to you.
Like you can go for a movie, if you are a movie lover guy or girl, similarly you can also go for a shopping, if you are a shopping lover one.
Meet a Friend
At this situation you can even plan to meet a friend, and I am sure when you spend some time with him/her you will realize that you are a bit more motivated now.
You can even plan for a date with your loved one, but it can further de-motivate you if you came to hear a No from your loved one (for any reason).
Read Something
As I have mentioned about the benefits of reading so many times in the past, reading is something which can take away all the negative things associated with you. So I would always suggest you to read something at the time when you are feeling too down.
Listen Music
Many people love listening songs, and it is the most influential thing to recover you from this stage.
Get Help
All the above mentioned points are something which can help you to be self motivated, but in some cases, you might not be able to feel the same motivational stage after following them. Sometimes it’s becomes hard to accomplish something all alone, so don’t hesitate in getting help. You can either go for help from some real professionals, or you can even get some help from online world.
