Politics, Infidelity, and Divorce!
Politicians acknowledge the fact that when they enter politics they have to open their lives to the public. All lies will be discovered, and all secrets will be unearthed. Everything will then be taken to the public such as their extramarital affairs and eventually divorces.
Former Presidential Cantidate
Al Gore, former US Vice President, and his wife Tipper Gore announced their separation in 2010 by sending messages to intimate friends saying that the decision was of mutual understanding. This was shocking for everybody since the Gores were married for forty years. People were saying they were way beyond separation but were they so wrong. Until today people kept asking what could have caused the separation. The answer was always, “they grew apart.’
Governors
Gov. Jim Gibbons of Nevada filed for divorce in May 2008 citing incompatibility as grounds with the help of divorce lawyers from ALP Law Firm who are considered as the best in this field. He wanted to lessen the publicity of his divorce by convincing the judge to seal the records from public scrutiny. However, what he did not expect was that his wife would file for a 33-page motion to draw attention to the longstanding rumors of his extramarital affairs with other women. While the divorce proceedings were ongoing, the governor lived in Reno while his wife continued to stay at the Governor’s mansion in Carson City. This caught the media’s attention and by April of 2009, the wife was living in an apartment near the mansion rather than in it. In January 2010 an out of court divorce agreement was made between the parties and the divorce was finalized July of that same year. The family-focused attorneys in Missouri acknowledge the court decision and ask the media to respect the privacy of the couple and support their decision to lead a better future on their own.
Even World Leaders
French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced his divorce to wife Cecilia in 2007. This story made the buzz because many historians know that the last French leader who had a divorce was Napoleon when he removed his wife from the palace in 1809. The two first saw each other when Nicolas presided over Cecilia’s first marriage. Years later they communicated again and were married in1996. They later separated and went on with their life pursuing relationships with other people. In 2006, they reconciled and created a unified front until Nicolas went the national Presidency in May. The absence of the wife in the presidential Elysee palace did not go unnoticed. 2 days after the divorce announcement, Cecilia’s interview with Elle surfaced where she said “Night and day for 20 years I didn’t let go of that belief, but today he no longer needs me.”
Really Public Life!
James Edward “Jim” McGreevey served as the 52nd Governor of New Jersey in 2002 until he resigned in 2004 even though his term was supposed to expire 2006. With the announcement he also made a public declaration of his homosexuality. He even admitted on having extramarital affairs with another man. McGreevey has two daughters from two marriages. He and his last wife, Dina Matos, separated after he came out. On March of 2008, a former aide claimed that he participated in a number of threesomes with the couple from 1999 to 2001. This was later on affirmed by a statement from the ex-Governor. The divorce was granted August 2008. U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and her husband Tom Athans was divorced in May 2010, 18, 15 months after he was arrested as part of a surveillance for suspected prostitution. The senator was said to be humiliated by this that she immediately filed for divorce.
Another Presidential Hopeful
Then President hopeful John Edwards and the late Elizabeth Edwards were divorced in March 2010. They had battled several storms together including the loss of their son and dealing with her cancer. However his unfaithfulness caused the end of their marriage. In December 2010, Elizabeth died from Metastatic Breast Cancer. In the final years of her life, she dealt with the infidelity of her husband, writing two books, making media appearances and in the midst of it all her breast cancer.
