In recent years, the summer music festival has become one of the most important features in a young person’s life. From Glastonbury in June all the way through to the Reading and Leeds festival held on the August Bank holiday, music fans can see many of the biggest names in music in one weekend. Away from the more familiar music festivals, there are many smaller festivals offering a more boutique style presentation to its customers. These festivals are often more relaxed and are marketed towards a niche section of music fans or particular groups like families or youngsters. It doesn’t matter how you like to enjoy live music, the UK has a festival solution for everyone.
There are some drawbacks from going to a festival in the United Kingdom though. The prices for UK festivals are rather high and can be hard to justify for many people. It is fair to say that a good holiday could be enjoyed for the price of a UK music festival, which must put many people off going to this type of event. Another major drawback for festival goers is the UK weather, which can be hard to predict. A UK music festival in the sunshine can be glorious but all too often, festival attendees do not take proper precautions which leads to them suffering from dehydration or sun stroke. The alternative to sun at a festival is rain and this usually makes for an uncomfortable time. Television footage of muddy music festivals will focus on people sliding about having fun but for most festival goers, mud is a major inconvenience.
There is a viable alternative to UK music festivals though with foreign festivals growing in popularity and it is easy to see why. The lower ticket price means the festival price is more affordable than UK festivals and with accommodation included in the price, the option of a foreign trip can be extremely tempting. If you can arrange travel for an affordable price, a foreign music festival provides a fantastic alternative to the over-priced UK market.
A popular destination for UK holidaymakers has always been Spain and this nation provides a great range of music festival options for anyone willing to get out of the country. There are plenty of travel options for getting to Spain which should ensure that all budgets are catered for with regards to reaching your final destination.
In recent years, the Benicassim festival has developed a reputation as being the best foreign festival for UK music fans and supposedly over half of the festival crowd is made up of attendees from the United Kingdom.
It is easy to see why the Benicassim festival is so popular. Buying a ticket for the 4 day event provides accommodation for up to 9 days on the festival campsite. This means that festival goers can enjoy a full holiday with their accommodation taken care of alongside their festival ticket. All you need is a tent and everything else will take care of itself.
Even though there are a large number of UK music fans at the Benicassim festival, the atmosphere is very different from the music festivals back home. The warm atmosphere is very relaxing and the hours the festival operates for are markedly different. A UK festival will traditionally start at midday with the headline act finishing their set around 11pm.
In Benicassim, bands start appearing around 4 or 5pm local time and the main stage headline acts will not arrive on stage until well after midnight. When they finish the fun is not over because the dance tents are still busy until 6 or 7am. If you are looking to obtain value for money from a music festival, the fact that Benicassim goes through the night until the sun comes up should see every festival attendee get their monies worth.
The festival site is located between Barcelona and Valencia with both of these cities being around 2 hours away by train. This means arriving and departing from Benicassim is easy and it should be straightforward to get return flights to the UK.
If you want to go to a music festival or enjoy a summer holiday but perhaps think that you cannot do both, Benicassim in Spain may be the answer to all of your festival prayers.
