Let’s Think about Water Conservation on World Environment Day 2011!

How many of us know that 5th June is considered as World Environment Day? Those who are not aware about it, let me tell them that 5th June is the day that stimulates awareness of the environment. Everyone expresses their concern towards environment on this day and later forget about what they said. Well jokes apart, but 5th June is the day when people seriously think about environment.

Do you people know why 5th June is considered as the World Environment Day? It is because 5th June is the beginning day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. This conference was held on 5th to 12th June 1972. To remember the same 5th June 1973 was celebrated as World’s Environment Day.

Let me tell you one interesting story associated with the World Environment Day. This day was hosted every year by different cities. Surprisingly every year World Environment Day comes with different themes too. I am really glad to know that the host of the year 2011 World Environment Day is India, my own country.

‘Forests: Nature at Your Service’ is the theme of the World Environment Day 2011. Glad to know that World Environment Day (commonly known as WED) theme of the year 2011 supports the concept of UN international year of forests.

On this day many people and organization do so many activities to keep environment clean and to create the awareness for environment among the people. One of the same kinds of activities about which I am writing this blog is the Sit and Draw Competition, which is organized by the group Abhilasha in Giridih, Jharkhand. This competition is scheduled at the Sai Seva Ashram, Sai Dham, Barmasia, Giridih Jharkhand on 4th of June 2011.

Abhilasha Research Foundation which uses the tag line as “Our Motto-to Initiate” has really initiated the awareness for the conservation of water and Environment. With the help of this competition their motto is also the same. I am really glad to know about this competition and that’s why I thought to share it with the readers of I News India so that you too can think about the World Environment Day and plan this day in a different manner.
