Poverty in India, Dependency on Agriculture is the main Reason!
15th of October was Blog Action Day on which all the blogger of the world need to discuss a common cause and this year’s topic was Poverty. So I thought to bring a small writing on the Poverty in India.
Despite the efforts of the Government to eliminate poverty from India, it is still considered as the biggest threat to the Indian Economy. Indian Economy was on a boom a few days back, from last two days it is on a downfall, though I am not going to discuss here about that.
Wikipedia mentions that “India is home to one-third of the world’s poor people”, please check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_India for more detail.
During recent time we have seen that Indian Middle Class has become more reached, the purchasing power of the Indian middle class family has increased durably during the period. Even the time has shown the growth of the Rich Class people of India. What about the people living below the poverty line in India?
As far as my views are concerned no one is there to take care about them. Our respected Politicians too did not take care about them. The main reason behind the poverty in India is the dependency on the Agriculture in Rural India. Jobs sector on which people who are residing in metros or a bit bigger cities are growing, but agriculture is a field which is not at all growing.
Agriculture always have to face the devastating way of nature like flood, drought etc. Government makes lots of policies to help the affected people but the money never reach to them.
So it is true that we are going to moon on the coming 22nd October, but still we will have to take a look on those people who are still unable to generate two times of food for them and their family. Please do share me with your views on the topic.
Surviving in India ? No big deal.
Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission of India, Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia thinks , one can survive in an Indian city for Rs.578 ( approx.$ 12.5 ) per month.
That is Rs.20 per day ( $ 0.35 ).
If you do, you are not “ poor “ – as defined by Planning Commission !
And don’t let it worry you that United Nations computes International Poverty Line at $ 1.25 per day.
Now, members of National Advisory Council, Aruna Roy , Jean Dreze and Harsh Mander were a bit skeptical.
So they went to the market and managed to buy with Rs.20 :
one small aluminum spoon
25 grams of dal
Half a slice of bread
Some washing powder
A torn piece of cloth
Then presented the packet ( obviously without gift wrapping ! ) to Montek Singh – who was not amused !
All the while, TV Channels were busy reporting on Lokpal Bill.
May be Aruna Roy and her colleagues should have undertaken a 10 am to 6 pm “ Survival Event “ at Jantar Mantar – solely depending on their purchase !
